Stormchasr I don't think it was this particular joke but the pattern of more and more off-color jokes. If this joke was at issue then it woiuld probably have been moved by a moderator. As to your point about the real-world so to speak, we do try and set an example of how the real-world could be if people were a little more civil to one another not how it is now.

Believe me, I respect you termemdously for that. Ihave had PM conversations with the moderators in/re this exact issue, and have found everybody to be intelligent and reasonable. So, whatever guidelines are in effect, I shall happily follow them. :)

Yeah, I've had PMs with you in the past.

Since this has become more of an issue than it has before, I suppose we ought to address this and clarify the guidelines. In my opinion, if the joke actually touches on references to specific, obvious acts (not intimate relations in general) or to specific parts of the anatomy and/or their functions, it crosses the line. Even if the language is clean and even if the innuendo is sly enough that a child is less likely to get it, it shouldn't be posted here (again, IMO) if it's the type of joke that would appear in National Lampoon, Hustler, or Playboy. Same goes for the general tone of conversations. The racy comments need to be limited to private chats, not the public forum, and flirtations kept to minimal compliments and non-sexual references.

As always, if you see something in a post that disturbs you that we may have missed, please feel free to PM one of the mods or admins. :)

i find somewhat of a double standard when a large cotingency of folks can go on and on about Desperate Housewives and then a mild joke like this is in question. Talk about offensive!!!

The joke has been edited so I'm not sure what it said originally. It does seem somewhat clean now compared to other jokes posted recently (and StormChasr isn't the only guilty party). But as I said, I'm not sure what the original text said.

As far as DH goes (since I know I post a lot about it), what have we said that was offensive so we can tone it down? (My first guess might be the pic I posted of Marcia Cross.)

Exactly. Maybe it's just me(since I watch that show), and find the joke funny. As for "younger members", well I fall into that, but I'm 16, almost 17. I know all about the stuff already(and have for years), so it doesn't bother me.

I agree with alicia-w.Some of the very ones "offended" by this joke are the same ones that eat up the filth and sleaze on "Desperate Housewives"."Let ye who have not sinned cast the first stone".

I'm still confused 1) because I don't know how offensive the joke was before it was edited, and 2) what does *watching* DH have to do with anything? There are no blatant references to genitalia on DH.

The joke wasn't edited, the title was(to insert the warning)

Ah...got it. Still don't get how that compares to DH.

We are talking two different things here, IMO. I think it has to do with perspective. I have seen nothing posted in the DH thread that is "offensive". Maybe some find the show and what it represents offensive. I definitely raise my eyebrows at some of the stuff I see on the tube and do use my option to change channels. I have seen some jokes posted here, that as a mod I came very close to removing, but I will tend to err on the side of leniency, as I do not consider myself a censor. I appreciate everyones response, for or against and definitely stand by what Marshall said above.

Ok I gotta admit the joke was funny. What would not be funny is a parent supervising their child viewing this board and then deciding that this board was off limits due to content. It is true that teenagers hear (and say) worse things at school or when they are with their friends. Chad and Marshall, along with the Mod Squad, must protect this boards reputation and keep it as "family friendly" as possible. They didnt get 5000 members here by running an "anything goes board".

Enough already! We've already apparently run off Stormchasr so lock this thread up and be done with it. Message received loud and clear.

Naw, I am not "run off." I like y'all too much to take umbrage. Besides, it is the will of the people running the board, and if a "family atmosphere" takes priority, than so be it. I can live with it, and I am sure others can. :D

Personally I didnt have any problem with the joke, I found it very funny... My 12 year old read it to, since I cant do anything without him right behind me, and he thought it was funny too... Believe me, they hear much worse stuff at school than in here, and to be honest I wish the stuff the read here was what they hear at school! You wouldnt believe the stuff that comes out of my 12 year olds mouth!! Sometimes I have to ask what he is talking about! (thats embarassing!)

That's what I was trying to say. It just didn't come out that way. Thank you very much!
