I think the point of the post is that some people may NOT know about the concerns regarding Splenda. I heard about them a few years ago.

The problem is that you provided no evidence for your version of "the truth". You posted some irrelevant claims that Splenda hasn't been tested. However, you conveniently left out the fact that foods generally are not tested in the manner your "evidence" would claim. Only prescription drugs are tested that way. Explain why anyone should believe those claims, much less change their eating habits because of them. And no, a claim by the US sugar industry doesn't count.

talum, look at the top of page 2. I posted a link to an article by a doctor on Spenda. Did you look at it? You might want to.

Its your choice.....sugar is bad for a diabetic, and artificial sweetners are not only bad, but can actually increase difficulties with diabetics, Diabeties is big in my family, Im not just talking out of my arse here![/quote]

Mike,

There's diabetes on both sides of my family. I know you mean well by posting about the risks of Splenda.

I can see that too HD. I'm a believer in informing people of certain concerns/dangers and then letting them decide. That's all it seems like you're doing, to me.

But I heard long ago, any artificial sweetener has risks.

And now, the natural alternative

There is a natural sugar substitute. It is a South American plant. I think, by the taste, it might be where they originally came up with Saccharine.

My wife bakes with it, I like it in teas. There may be a caution if you are pregnant, I don't remember, but they say that with all herbs.

splenda

#54 Postby cswitwer » Fri Jun 10, 2005 9:56 pm

Splenda is chemically-derived, and I don't know what effect it has on my body's cells, so I avoid it completely. Sugar isn't that harmful unless you overdo it, so I go for the real stuff. Refined sugar is worse than honey, etc, so I use that in homemade breads, teas, etc. I'd rather eat something "natural" than chemical, then work off the calories if I need to.
