This must be a difficult time for you; I'm so sorry for your loss. Last month we lost a puppy that we were in the process of adopting before we could bring him home. :( The pain is still fresh, so I can truly say I know how you feel. We did end up finding a different puppy to adopt, which has helped to assuage our sadness. Since you feel ready, I think it is a wonderful idea for you to honor Marra's life by adopting a kitten in need.

A few years ago we had to also make the heartbreaking if merciful decision to put our kitten, ironically named Hurricane, to sleep after only having him for a few days. We hadn't been planning to adopt a kitten, but Hurricane showed-up homeless and adorable and we couldn't resist! After losing him, we then decided to adopt a kitten. We found one at the shelter that was too fearful to approach anyone or let anyone pick her up (not a good way to get yourself adopted). For some reason, when I opened her crate, she walked right over to me and let me hold her. "Stormie" has been my constant companion and therapy cat ever since!

My husband says that our animals have a job to do here on earth, and, once it's done, then they cross over the rainbow bridge. Hurricane's job was to bring us to Stormie. So, we've always considered Hurricane to be Stormie's guardian angel.

Now a wonderful kitten who doesn't even know that he or she will soon go to his or her forever home very soon has a guardian angel named Marra...

Hi Rainband -

I got teary-eyed just reading your post. I remember when my little dachsund was put to sleep when I was a freshman in high school. We got him when I was four years old, and since my family moved around a lot and I was shy, my dog was my best buddy. I'm 32 now and I still remember how much that hurt.

Hugs and prayers!
