You Went To Jail?

#1 Postby Janice » Fri Jul 01, 2005 8:17 am

What is that one thing you did in the past that when you think about it today, you were so lucky not to have been caught and off to jail.

Me... I drove home too many nights too drunk to drive with my head hanging out the window for air and only seeing with one eye... I was so lucky I never got picked up or hurt someone.

Guilty of that too, but I was young and stupid. *shiver*

Guilty. Young, stupid, and very lucky I didn't hurt anyone.

Well, I have done a few things but never landed in jail. I am a good girl, for the most part. But after my first marriage ended at age 28, almost 29, I suddenly fell into a new group of partying type friends. I was maybe a one or two glass of wine drinker a MONTH prior to this - yeah, I know a real rebel. LOL I tried keeping up with this group, sometimes. Others I just admitted defeat - ordering a soda. They all gave me a hard time but hey at least I could walk to the car at the end of the night....he he. I've had this discussion with Annette/breeze before. I tried Long Island Iced Teas a few times and wondered why I could only have one per night. That is until I paid attention to what the bartender was putting in one of these drinks!!! That was the end of my LI Iced Teas....I promptly switched to 12 oz beer bottles, spaced out with a few Pepsi's...

Anyway, I did drive home one night when I shouldn't have. The next morning I started my car up and the muffler sounded very odd. I didn't know what was wrong with it but I took it into the shop. As it went up on the lift I was asked to come out and look at it. I was fearing the worse - blood (animal lover ya know). Thank God I didn't see blood - I think I would have fainted on the spot if I had. Turns out I drove over some sort of curb and dinged up a pipe, which of course could be fixed. The mechanic was giving me one of those hang-over looks - yep, this one tied it on last night.....LOL

No arrest though.....just embarrassing. This was probably my turning point - pacing with the Pepsi's, while all my friends were ordering another round of beers. One even said to me I was getting gyped - a Pepsi was cheaper than a Beer. I said well, at least I won't have a hangover in the morning!!! You know how it is with large groups and rounds.....it never quite evens out. Even though when it was my turn to buy, I knew I was paying more for their drinks than they did for my measley little soda pop's!!!

Never drove drunk and never would drive at all after drinking anything (not that I drink much anyway). Proud former member of SADD and it's always my pleasure to be the designated driver.

I don't think I could confess what I did. I'm not sure if the statute of limitations has run out.

Only time I was ever in a lockup was when I was booking a suspect.

As to "illegal" activity, none of which I am aware.

Won't drive if I have more than one or two drinks...absolutely detest drinking and driving and have dumped a few friends over this before.

I could've been arrested for public intox a time or two, and also indecent exposure. Luckily, there were no cops hangin' out in the cornfields of Indiana those nights.

that happens all to frequently in Wisconsin... unfortunately, there are many days I've done that also. I've driven by a cop and thankfully, he picked up the identical car in the other land for possible DUI. that was the closest I've been... and I don't want to be that close again.

I did the stupid drinking and driving thing too. And I am now very cautious. If I know I plan on drinking, I will try to catch a ride with someone. Or let someone sober drive my car. Once for Mardi Gras, I was drinking since 11 A.M. And it was after 7 p.m. and my "so called best friend" at the time, wanted me to drive her somewhere. She said she was too drunk to drive at the time. I felt almost sober by then. So, I took the chance and drove her car. But, by the time I got behind the wheel, I felt like I was buzzing again. I went to make a left hand turn on the bridge, and I made the turn too wide, and almost sideswiped someone. They started pomping the horn at me. Then, a cop got behind us. I was sooooooo nervous. I thought for sure he was going to pull me over. I was so scared that I drove all the way behind the Wal-mart and lost the cop in the canefield. I was so lucky to escape a DWI that night. Plus, my so called friend had no insurance on the car and beer cans were all over the front seat. I will never, ever be that stupid again! If I would of got arrested, my parents would of killed me and would of not even bailed me out of jail. My brother got a DWI once for New Years Eve and totaled his car. And the people he hit were hurt and tried to sue us!

Never drove while intoxicated, or done anything which would have sent me to prison....but I did do a couple things in my teenage days which were either risky or illegal...

1) driving far too fast....80-85 mph or so on I-20 a couple times (back in my late teens).

2) petty shoplifting from a local grocer....I was never caught; it was only a couple sports magazines and happened over 25 years ago, but to this day I feel ashamed and guilty (esp. since the store went out of business over a decade ago...no way to rectify that wrong...by paying the store manager for them :(

Actually, even Poppysky has something in THIS closet.

When I was 10, three friends and me decided to snap the radio antenna off a car parked on the street one night. That was before retracting antennas and those that couldn't be snapped.

Anyway...one of the others did it, but I was so lucky, I got to take it home with ME!

A few days later, this same group of mischievous 4th graders decided to plot a bigger raid....and we snapped the antennas off of a dozen cars or so in a car lot not far from home!

Lucky me...I got to keep them again. I put them in a long box my dad had in the basement to keep his carpet stretcher.

When one of the mom's mentioned to the other mom and to MY mom that they had better keep their cars off the street because this was happening in the neighborhood, one of the other three melted under the heat and promptly told his mom what "I" had done.

Lo and behold after a scolding that only a Christian mother can give, officer Pete was invited to our house so I could show him what was in the carpet box.

He didn't care much if it was "me or we" who did it, but that gun he was wearing looked pretty scary in that holster. And that badge...man did it ever shine brightly in my face!

Well, to this day I can't remember mom or dad ever saying that they had to pay for the damage, but my friendships with the others were on rocky grounds that summer.

Just as well. I remember that it was just before I was ten because it was also "the year without a birthday."

Unfortunately, I still can't subtract one from my current age.

Man, oh man, was that gun close to me when he opened that box!!!
