May 6 — Roughly $900 million in U.S. currency was taken from Iraq’s Central Bank shortly before the United States began bombing Baghdad, U.S. government officials confirmed Tuesday. Meanwhile, with the Iraqi president gone, American officials have been consulting five anti-Saddam leaders in their efforts to form an interim national government ahead of a critical conference at the end of May.Saddam ordered cash removed just before first air attacks, Times reports.

On his father's orders, Qusai reportedly took nearly $1 billion out of Iraq's Central Bank just before the U.S.-led war began in March.
