Cities want Charter to pay $4.7 million

#1 Postby TexasStooge » Tue May 06, 2003 3:30 pm

Nine area cities plan to seek a total of about $4.7 million from Charter Cable because they say an audit shows that the company hasn't lived up to the customer service standards (news - web sites) of its contracts.

Fort Worth officials said Monday that they notified Charter officials last month of their intent to levy nearly $2.7 million in fines. The City Council is expected to authorize a hearing officer to review the case at the May 13 meeting.

"The city of Fort Worth wants excellent, consistent cable service," said Pat Svacina, the city spokesman. "We don't want Charter's money, we want quality service.

"That's our ultimate goal here."

The real thing that cable service all over the country needs is COMPETITION! Anythime a monopoly is allowed to exist prices rise and quality suffers!

Exactly, Marshall. There is no competition when cable companies merge.

Comcast (my cable provider) merged with AT&T Broadband last December. The town I grew up in in Massachusetts had MediaOne when I moved and just about a month later had AT&T Broadband, so now that town and many towns in eastern Massachusetts have Comcast.

I didn't mention, but it is probably a given... that MediaOne merged with AT&T Broadband and then AT&T Broadband and Comcast merged and are called Comcast.
