Mmmm, what is that smell I detect? Karan - you're too much. Something told me to click on this thread. And it's been dreary, cold, gray and lousy wx-wise in Cincinnati lately. Jeremy - you know what I mean. Tea hits the spot.

Jeremy - I always tell my girls to take the high road in situations like you described. That said, it's not easy - not by a longshot. But in the end, you'll be proud you held your head up high and rose above his lowly behavior. Nina, senior in HS, is off and on so fed up with HS. The cliques that were formed in 6th grade she says, the fact that people are so judgemental, the fact that she can't wait to get to college. She vented with me yesterday for an hour and then felt much better. I explained that she could look forward to one year from now so much, that she'd miss out on fun HS activities and memories right now. She sighed and said, you're right. There are fun things planned, only for seniors. I think we're going to have this conversation quite a bit this year. Maybe just vent with us or your family. That will make you feel better.

we had another day of dense fog this morning...visiblility 1/16 mile! Yup, quite white outside... and I don't mean that 4 letter word!

Karan... I dispise talking about HS! Cliques where prevelant. I don't talk to anyone from my HS anymore... Once Nina gets into College, she will meet a whole new crew of friends. All my good friends that I have now are people that I met in College.... I have more trust in those people than had for my HS friends. College will be a MUCH more enjoyable experience.

Shannon/pojo - Nina already knows this! She can't wait to get to college and begin that early adult phase of her life. But what I'm worried about is her attitude towards HS right now - she comes home so frustrated, venting, etc. I know that shows on her face at school! She still has to spend 7 hours a day with these people, until next June! Just don't want her to burn her bridges now.....sometimes you focus so far ahead you don't enjoy where you are now. That's what I was trying to get across to her. Unlike any other phase in a person's life, are peer pressure and cliques be so prevalent than the HS years. I feel lucky that I didn't feel this, I went to an all girls HS and honestly, didn't want to graduate! I felt nurtured there, safe, didn't really want to enter the 'real world'......sometimes I think she should have gone to my old HS, but I didn't think of this when we were looking at houses in the lat 80s! Oh well, we made the decision to move across town, sending our girls to public (not Catholic) schools and at least she has experience interacting with the opposite sex. I had very little of that! Might have been one reason why I was hesitant to leave HS. There were girls from my class cheering - finally, we're out of this h*ll hole, but I was tearing up, looking around the halls thinking - oh this part of my life is now over.....another reason why I never miss my class' reunions or all-class ones held at the school, every 2 years. Maybe I should have been a teacher.....LOL

Well...David...I'm another one that says take the advice already given. I've come to realize that the namecallers, those who need to knock someone else down are doing it to level the playing field. Their way of making themself look better is by making everyone else look worse. That will continue all your life. I was recently called an "equestrian hater" by someone after a planning commission meeting because I voted a certain way on a plan for a church. They were implying that I said yes to putting in the church and that meant I was saying no to keeping a horse trail open in the area. That is ludicrous. So was their comment. So name calling continues through life...it is how we handle it that matters. Don't let yourself stoop to their level. Take the high road.

As for Nina...Mary. HS breeds a lot of cruelty. Neither of my sons ever plan on going back to a reunion...but do have some people they stay in touch with. My own memories are a mixed bag of laughs and pain. But they are part of my past nonetheless...and I consider it one ingredient in making me who I am.

Our pain is a learning experience. It also becomes a measuring stick from which we measure the better days and better things in life. Nina is simply learning that. It doesn't stop in college...in fact it doesn't stop in life, but it is necessary to understand and appreciate the sun when it does come out.

52 and chilly after a rainy afternoon yesterday. Coolest temps of the fall this morning. Feels good for a change.

IT"S FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! YIPPEE

This week has been really busy. I like it that way but today I'm ready to kick back, have a glass of wine and use the weekend to prepare my yard and plants for winter. If it's chilly outside, I'll fire up the chimnea and put on a pot of tea.

Have a great Friday everyone. I'll put on a fresh pot of coffee and brew some Earl Grey.

Jeremy, special ((Hugs)) for you to calm you down!!!

Mary, don't you wish you could feel Nina's frustration for her instead of her having to go thru that. It's so very difficult seeing your kids in pain and not being able to take it away. Giving her that warm shelter of your love will cushion all those hard blows from high school, college and actually throughout life. My girls are 36 and 38 and I still want to take away any "bumps in the road" that they may experience. ((Hugs)) Keep up the good work Mom.

Shannon, I remember the pictures you once sent me of your friends in "Habitat". Are you still very good friends with them??

Hey Steve, you should be getting pretty close to becoming a POPPY for the second time. What is their due date??

Ok, I gotta get some work done.
See ya later

Boy! After THIS week, Karan, that Earl Grey
sure does calm me down! It seems like 40
people wanted something from me at one time,
today...after being "stretched" out so far, a cup
of Earl and some good friends makes the night much better. Thanks for the TLC!

Hi everybody...my company is gone and we are home from our travels with her! I need normal sleep! While in Vegas we stayed up all night with her....its bad for the eyes and face, let me tell you! I am looking forward to staying home for a bit and getting things back to normal around here...

Its very chilly...in the 50's and 40's at night...it was 20* the one night we drove up to Big Bear Mountain! THATS crazy!

So, I'm looking forward to a rest by the stove...don't mind me if you catch me actually "snoozing" by the stove...lol...

Take care everyone!

Give me some fire! In the low 50s with moderate rain as I type this message. Brrrrrrrrrr it's a chilly rain this time around. At least I have enough common sense to put on sweatpants when it gets this cold. :P

Most of them have graduated...however, every great while I will run into a few. Due to the fact I live at home (45 minutes) from campus... driving up to the Sunday night meetings is not worth my trip. The meetings are barely 30 min long... and 45 min drive each way... not economical. I will happily say that working with Habitat was a great experience that I will never forget... I still have my scrapbooks filled with memories that I will cherish. My friend Sara (who I met through Habitat) are good friends... I just spent a few hours with her last Friday watching movies. She'll come up to visit me and/or I have to go down to Sheboygan to visit her. She fits in with my personality quite well. (which can be scary at times)

Hi all! Looks like autumn is really setting in for you all in the west along with a whole lotta rain. Watch out for those flooded roadways.

My mom (also a wx nut) and step-dad were up visiting from FL last week to see some fall foliage and also I think just to be somewhere other than FL this hurricane season. We spent a long weekend down at Kentucky Lake, which was nice. But the best part was ... my husband arranged for us to have a personal tour of the NWS office in Paducah! It was awesome!!! It was a slow day there, no severe wx in their CWA, so one of the mets spent about 1-1/2 hrs showing us everything. I was drooling over all the model graphics that aren't available to the public. Man, I would be perfectly happy to sweep the floors there just to be near all those computer charts every day.

Take care all and have a great day!

DONNAaaaa!!! Good to see 'ya, gal! Sounds like
you had a great weekend! Wow, that tour of
the NWS office had to have been fantastic - I
am in ENVY, my friend! ;)

I'm just sitting here wishing for the weekend.
My grandma used to say, "you're wishing your
life away", and, I thought that was funny. Now,
I realize that I AM doing that, but, come on,
Friday! Everyone have a great night, and, if
you actually get to SEE the eclipse, think of me -
I'll be "sawin' logs"...Zzzzzzzzzzz....!

Wha? Where am I? This looks sort of like the PBS I remember, and I see some familiar faces, but there's something different.

Anyhoo, just let me say, " It;'s a beautiful day in Central PA." Current temp is 70° under clear bright blue skies. It's a perfect Autumn day in PA.

Hello to all my old friends, and greetings to all you folks I haven't met before.

Karan suggested I might want to stop in here, so here I am.

Lots has been happening, but I won't bore you with all the details. Except to say that I went to Hershey last Thursday to see President Bush, along with about 31,000 other people. It was really exciting!

I tried to view the eclipse last night, but it was too foggy here. Did anyone get a good view?

Does Big Dave ever stop in here? The other day I decided to visit him at home. I wasn't sure where his house was, so when I got to the house I thought was his, I yelled in through the screen door, " Does Big Dave live here?" A voice called back, " Yup, just leave him on the porch. We'll drag him in later." :D

I've gotta go. Don't worry, be happy!!

I've always wanted to be the last man on Earth, just to see if all those women were lying to me.

Yep furry, it was another good soaker here too. We had a bit under 3 inches here in Costa Mesa. Along with 2 thunderstorms early this morning. Not one but TWO separate boomers. Rare for here by far. And yes I heard about all that snow in Big Bear, it sure is amazing stuff. Glad to hear that they are finally getting what they need. Doesn't seem like there will be any fires this year, at least I hope not.
