I remember how odd it was when a friends parents would get divorced...it was so unusual...I remember when almost all of my friends parents were still married..and you could count on one hand the ones with divorced parents...and some of those parents made up lies, like the father was dead or something....

I remember how rare it was for parents to divorce too fur. And girls to get pregnant Janice. These topics usually come up at our all girls high school class reunions. One girl came from a broken home and our principal (strict nun) wouldn't allow her to be our newspaper editor. She came up with a bogus reason, but Sheila just knew it was b/c her mom was divorced and her dad was nowhere to be found. Now that seems like the time to help a student and give her something constructive to do after school, not ban her from it! The other one we talk about also - we had 2 girls in our class with lots of friends pop up pregnant. The one just disappeared and the other comes to our reunions. She holds her head up high, even though she didn't graduate with us. She kept her baby and we're so proud of her!
I remember when it was a big deal if a mom went to work! My mom did eventually, and I had to let myself into an empty house after school. I just hated that! Besides keeping my room clean, my daily chore was to empty the dishwasher and set the table for dinner. I complained about both (not my room) for years. Why do I have to do it? I wish I had been more helpful. I'm sure she was tired after work and didn't even sit down until 8 or 9 at night. Shame on me!

I remember when we had ONE black and white TV with 3 channels. Finally got my own TV when my parents got tired of me using theirs
Rotary dial phones..we got the first touch tone on the block when it became available. You couldnt get a pizza delivered here till the late 70's. Used a push mower to cut the grass(gasp). Central AC wasnt widely available till the early to mid 70's i think..we had one window unit in my room and another in my parents room. Our first house was VERY well insulated; the house stayed comfy. Bell bottom pants, wouldnt be caught dead in them now. No internet..omg how did i live without it? Saturday mornings were reserved for yard work..then the rest of the day was mine. Sunday we went church in the morning then Dad would take me and my mother somewhere nice to eat. No one wore shorts to school..or to work like I do now. No cell phones, but there were pay phones everywhere. As was said earlier divorce was pretty rare, but I remember a few of my childhood friends who were stigmatized by their parents splitting up.
