Were those the "others" that stole walt at sea? I couldn't figure out who they were. I wonder how Sawyer and the rest will survive after their boat blew up. What the hell is the monster and what was that cranking noise when it was pulling in Locke? What's with those numbers?! So many unanswered questions that will have to wait until the fall but I guess thats why this show is so addicting.

Lost seems so much more confusing than Desperate Housewives. And yet, in a lot of ways, they're very similar -- several characters connected by one event (Lost - plane crash, DH - suicide), mysteries surrounding each character or a character's significant other, flashbacks that answer some of the questions yet also lead to more questions.
At least with DH, there was resolution to the first major mystery this season. I was reading earlier on MSNBC about how Lost seems to have strung viewers along with a lot of set-up, but not resolution whatsoever. If I tried to watch it, I think I'd go mental.

Yes, they were the "others" - remember when Danielle, the French woman, said she heard voices saying they were coming for the boy? Then she took Claire's baby to the smoke signal, thinking that was the boy they wanted and she could trade the baby for her Alex they took 16 years earlier. Well, that explains why they weren't there and didn't take the baby - they wanted Walt! Poor Michael - he didn't even want to use the flare but was pressured by the other 3, including Walt. Then they take his son!
I bet there are enough floating pieces that they survive and make it back to the island, or rather the island draws them back in. lol
The numbers are very weird. They are everywhere!

Thanks SG, that is what I had thought but wasn't too sure. This show is just too good, can't wait until the fall!

I found this website, apparently created by the writers of LOST called Oceanic Airlines. It gives all sorts of clues.
http://www.oceanic-air.com/
Read the important announcement on the right by the President for Oceanic Airlines. Notice he says "tragedy" instead of "crash" which is very significant if you do a search for Flight 815 through the Track Flight. Type in 815 and get the results.
Look at Flight 815 results. All of the others say "Landed" - Flight 815 says "Alert". It shows it left Sydney 4 minutes behing schedule (due to Hurley) but ARRIVED at 3:23, 7 minutes behind schedule. So it did land in Los Angeles? No crash? Well, then what's the tragedy? It knocked them out of business! Also, notice the various numbers in that column, like Gate 42. Look familiar?
Also, click on the 42 on Gate 42. It doesn't appear to be a link but it is. A seating chart will open up (it's kinda slow to do so). The seats and row numbers seem to be links but the only thing I got to show up was who was sitting in a few of the seats.
I'm sure there are more clues throughout as well.
So if they didn't really crash and the plane landed, how did they get there? Are they not really the survivors they think they are? Wow, season 2 is gonna be good!

Oh wow, more good stuff from that site! First of all, you can click on the little blue boxes above the numbers 4,8,15,16,23 and 42 to get seats for some of the characters. You can then click on the green boxes to see who's seat it was and get stuff about them. Like when you click on Locke's green box, you get pics of stuff he carried and then a pic of him with a creepy sound. etc.
The Jack box prompts an orange box for Rose.
The neatest thing I found was when I clicked on the actual numbers in the seating chart, in order: 4,8,15,16,23 and 42, you get a preview for next year. And boy oh boy, what a message it sends!

Also, notice that in the seating chart it says Oceanic 777. When you click on Jack's green box, it periodically changes to Oceanic 815. Is there 2 flights? One arrived and one didn't? Maybe nobody knew about the one that didn't arrive. But why would there be an alert that caused them to go out of business? Maybe the plane landed in L.A. and nobody was on it? I think there are 2 planes. That would explain what Boone heard on the radio thingy: "No, we're the survivors of Flight 815." Nobody knows about that because Boone died. hmmm
Also, by clicking Jack's name and other things quickly, Where it says Oceanic 777 (and sometimes 815), very very quickly and faint you'll see a "www.oceanicflight815.com" appear. I typed it into my browser. Watch.

Kelly did you see the map? Did you see the hidden message from John Harris? Did you see the crumpled page of script from the finale where he was going to show the monster...gives a description and calls it a name...heck I can't remember and have already closed the site...will look later and do an edit.

I know I watched a couple of things...like right after the plane crashed and its goes dark and you see someone in the water and then nobody and hear Claire, I think its her voice, say did anybody see that, etc. etc... Did you notice if you clicked on the plane while he was blinking after you clicked on Jack that the side slice view of the plane with seats would turn into a silver plane? I couldn't get it to do anything other than that.

Did anybody see the hidden message behind the Oceanic Air Pres. Announcement?
It read:
"Robert D. West, of Santa Barbara, California, USA survived a horrific plane crash and is stranded on an island somewhere Northeast of Australia and Southwest of Hawaii. In the event that I am never found, please forward word of my fate to parents, Mr. and Mrs. John West, of Tucson Arizona. Thank you.
Robert"
UPDATE: I just wanted to say that through some reading on the LOST message boards, that there is a lot of talk about this site. Many are skeptical about what it reveals, including the script page. After all, why would they completely reveal the monster to fans searching for the site. I do think the thing about them not being "the survivors they thought they were" in the preview/trailer is interesting. A lot of talk is ensuing about this.
Did want to post this I read on another board. Forgive me it has been discussed. ***THIS COULD BE CONSIDERED A POSSIBLE SPOILER, BUT ITS REALLY JUST SPECULATION AT THIS POINT.***
"A couple years ago Michael Crichton wrote a book called "PREY". It was about a team that went to clean up a government experiment that went wrong.
On the finale we actually did see the monster, well actually it is monsterS. PREY was about clouds of nanobots, tiny robots, that moved around in clouds that resembled smoke or a swarm of gnats. Sound familiar? How about this, the sound the nanobots made in PREY was a screaming mechanical sound. Once again familiar? The nanobots were able to physically position themselves to grab objects, such as PEOPLE. In the book, when the nanobots escaped they lived underground. In LOST, the trees are not being lifted up by a monster, they are being pushed or blown out by the nanobots. That is the hole that Lock was pulled into.
Remember the how Danielle said everyone got sick? In the book PREY, the nanobots went into peoples bloodstream through inhalation, and into their brain. They were then able to control that person. This is what happened to her research team.
Finally, I read I biography on the creators of LOST, it says one of their favorite authors is Michael Crichton.
That should solve a few misteries."
And, look at this from the lost message board:
http://oak.cats.ohiou.edu/~ms322801/lostturbineenhanced.gif
Watch closely just above the engine right above it explodes. Could it be related to the smoke in the Finale? This would also correlate to the fact that Abrams said we would see 25% of the monster in the Finale. Many were mad that they didn't show anything, or did they? If the smoke is the monster or a part of it.
Other literary allusions have been made, including Dante's Inferno and the concept of Limbo, which has become a popular theory lately. Also an interesting thing if you look it up.

You have to mess around with the cursor, highlighting text and such. Thats also how you have to get the secret script page to appear. Others are saying there are similar messages all over the site, but this is the only one I could find. They believe they could be the messages sent in bottles during the final episode.

Also, WRT the "they were not the survivors they thought they were". It also revealed this happened when they reached the other side of the island. Remember the tail section of the plane broke off, so perhaps its possible that there is a group of survivors on the other side of the island, and maybe that is what Boone heard on the radio right before he died that SouthernGale was referring to.
This is just some more things I am reading on the message boards. So much mystery its hard to keep up with.

Yes, I saw that hidden message. It had to come from that bottle. sunny, it shows up over the President's message on the Home page. You gotta mess with it. lol Go to the seating chart (explanation how above in a previous post) and click on all of the "numbers" 4,8,15,16,23,42 and watch the preview. Also go to http://www.oceanicflight815.com/ and watch that.
jkt, I was somewhat sketpical about the site too. I know that the site above showed up on the seating chart page, only once for me...it was quick and faint. It showed up where it says Oceanic 777 but gives the 815 information. That does change over to 815 after pressing on Jack's seat a certain number of times or something, not sure exactly how I got it. Anyway, that site it gives seems to be an ABC site as well. I entered one of my email addy's to sign up for ABC.com (one I rarely use because I wasn't sure about it) and then the next time I went to the official ABC Lost page, it welcomed me.
Anyway, I do find it hard to believe that they would write something that's so close to the book PREY but that definitely sounds similar! I saw that animated gif of the smoke...not sure what to make of it, if anything. Maybe 25% of the monster was this. Here's a freeze frame from the finale.

Yeah, its hard to believe for it to be based on that book, but some very eerie similarities (even more than I posted). I also saw the "eyes" in the smoke, some say it was intended, while others say its crappy CGI, especially with the weird way it exited. I believe it (and also when Locke was being pulled in) was the 25% we were promised. Its something at least partially mechanical (given those noises) and the smoke could be an exhaust system of some sort. This would further the theory of PREY, but I'd like to get further into the show before deciding on this.
About the animated gif...there is a lot of controversy whether thats intended, or debris, or again crappy CGI. Given the path of this "thing", how it dives down to the engine, and as the engine blows up, shoots up quickly, makes me rule out debris, but some are insisting that it is. Not sure. They are also posting pics of this smokey object in other episodes and scenes which make me question it further too (although some are really stretching it).
Of course, I guess thats what the summer is for, watching the repeats and analyzing every frame of every episode!
