The problem is how the voting is done, just like I said last year. There needs to be some input by the judges also with votes combined to determine winners and losers. Now it is just a popularity contest for the little teenie boppers who "think he is cute" and can scream loud enough to drown out the person speaking. This show will go down the tubes completely unless they revamp it next year imo.

I still think this is the best group in years, but some of the wrong people are gone and some of the wrong people are still on.

Of course, all those screaming tennie boppers are the ones whose mommy and daddy go our and buy the albums for so we are in sort of a catch 22.

There is a lot of stigma and "looking down the nose at" connected with being an American Idol winner. Also, there are a lot of contractual obligations associated with being the winner. The recording contract is horrendous. Only Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood have made it big . . . but look at the number of "losers" that have made that are household names: Clay Aiken, Josh Gracin, Jennifer Hudson, Chris Daughtry. .

That's very true, how often do you hear about Ruben or Taylor or even Jordin from last year?

Also it is AMERICAN Idol, Michael Johns and Carly were not American-born. That could have something to do with why they were booted earlier than most expected.

RETHINKING 'IDOL'
AUDITIONS SHOWN AS FLASHBACKS NEXT YEAR

The producers of "American Idol" - worried about sink ing ratings - are considering some major changes to the show, including making the auditions flashbacks.

Execs for Fox have quietly begun taking audience surveys to see how fans might react to a number of changes in the hit show's format, according to a report yesterday.

"Suppose the first few weeks of 'American Idol' started in Hollywood with flashbacks of the auditions," one survey question asks. "Would that increase or decrease your enjoyment of 'American Idol'?"

Though "Idol," now in its sixth year, is by far the most-watched series on TV, the ratings have begun to slip this season - the first time that has happened on a regular basis.

Last Wednesday's results show, which saw Irish singer Carly Smithson booted, was the lowest-rated episode in five years, according to trade reports.

"We're not in denial," Fox exec Preston Beckman told Broadcasting & Cable, the TV business weekly. "It's still the biggest show on TV, but that doesn't mean there are things we can't do.

"The feedback from this year, you'll probably see on the show next year," he said.

Among the other questions on the survey, a copy of which was obtained by B&C and posted online yesterday were:

* Is the banter among the judges too much or too little?

* And do fans want to see more of host Ryan Seacrest, or less?

The survey is being conducted online, the report said.

Those types of polls are notoriously unscientific. But the execs say they are looking for results that are overwhelming - one way or another - to base decisions on for next year.

The talent show is hardly in a panic about plugging the leaks in its ratings.

Even in its worst week, "Idol" drew 22.6 million. That's 30 percent higher than the usual No. 2 show, "Dancing with the Stars," a huge margin in TV terms.

And though it does seem clear that some of the shine is starting to wear off "Idol," the erosion may be beyond the control of Fox and the show's producers.

As one cable news analyst pointed out after the last week's Pennsylvania primaries, the Hillary Clinton-Barack Obama race has gotten so exciting, "it's even beating 'American Idol.' "

They need to change the corrupt voting system. Websites like votefortheworst are what's keeping the awful singers on so long.

If they do that, I might consider watching the show again. But for the rest of this season, I'm done.

Edit: Well, VFTW did help bring up attention for change, so I guess it's not so horrible...

VFTW brings to attention that perhaps less talented singers are being kept on by the TPTB because their entertainment value to certain demographic, ie Sanjay, Constantine, etc. .

I would like to see actual vote total for each contestant.

There have been allegations in the past that TPTB have manipulated the bottom 3 to get more votes for contestants that have been lagging in votes. This is based on DialIdol votes and various other things that attempt to gauge the # of votes each contestant is getting. I'm not saying the person kicked off isn't the lowest vote-getter, but I would like to see the actual vote totals. Some those who ended up as the bottom 3 have struck people as strange.

I would like to see actual vote total for each contestant. AI has past history of manipulating the votes. For example, in bottom 3, there is occasionally (I'm not sure how many times it has happened) is someone who really didn't belong there, but was put there to pump up the vote the next time.

I am not saying I feel one way or the other about the bolded section above, but speaking as an administrator of this site, please do not make bold accusations such as this unless you can provide the proof.

I'm sorry. I will rephrase:

Thank you and now I will state my opinion.

I too have to wonder also what is going on when some people who are in the bottom 3 are there and some who should be never are. However, I am not so sure there is vote manipulation going on by anyone except the voting blocks that some Idol contestants fan clubs apparently have set up in the past and I presume now. IE, how did Rubin Studdard win? Why are people like Daughtery voted off? You are right-it does not make sense, but I do believe that most of these occurences are due more to "set ups" by fans(screaming little teenie boppers among others) than anything else. True manipulation by anyone associated with the show, especially if it could be proved would be suicide and would destroy the show imo. JMHO.

What drug is Paula on tonight? :roflmao: Thinking they had sang twice already and then going into incoherent random thoughts.

Early picks to go: Jason or Brooke.

This is a big batch of meh tonight and it's WAY too rushed.

Oh and one more thing, David C rocks! :ggreen:

Jason Castro - “Forever in Blue Jeans”
Not bad; looked more comfortable on stage and with the song; I liked it

David Cook - “I’m Alive” - :D

Brooke White - “I’m a Believer”uhhh. . . it was bad

David Archuleta - “Sweet Caroline” . . . he can sing something other than boy band . . .. still not impressed. . . in fact I didn't like it

Syesha Mercado - “Hello Again” ouch . . the high notes are hurting my ears ..

Paula is definitely not there tonight.

Jason Castro - “September Morn” not bad; at least compared to Brooke

David Cook - “All I Ever Really Need is You” . . pre-ordering both 1st and 2nd from tonight .. . right now. . ;)

Brooke White - “I Am … I Said” better. . a lot better . .

David Archuleta - “America” blah . . . mmmm, Brooke was better.. . either that and I'm becoming deaf . .. . because I can't understand the adulation . . just still not impressed.

Syesha Mercado - “Thank the Lord for the Night Time” better than the 1st song; like it . ..

First Song:
David C
Jason C
Syesha M
David A
Brooke

Second Song
David C
Brooke
Jason C / Syesha M (tied)
David A

bottom 2: Jason C and Syesha M Go home Jason C
