Lost Duo Offer Peek At Season 2
by Ethan Alter
Josh Holloway and Maggie Grace
When the cast of Lost appeared at last year's San Diego Comic-Con — months before the series' debut — they were greeted by only a small crowd, most of whom were there to spy Lord of the Rings star Dominic Monaghan. Obviously, a lot has changed since then. This year, the returning castaways (and cocreator Damon Lindelof) basked in the cheers of a roomful of passionate fans. "What a welcome that was," an awestruck Maggie Grace told TVGuide.com afterward. "This whole experience is just so overwhelming. A year and a half ago I was just making ends meet; this is a different level completely!" Josh Holloway, back in full Sawyer mode, complete with stubble and flowing locks, praised Lost's vocal fan base. "I love the fans," he said with a huge grin. "They're so enthusiastic and positive, I just wander around smiling all the time." The actors then spoke with us about their favorite Lost relationships — and dropped a few hints about Season 2.
TVGuide.com: Do people constantly approach you on the street begging for spoilers?
Josh Holloway: Oh, yeah, even at home. If I don't get hold of my script first, my wife grabs it, runs to the bathroom, locks the door and reads the whole thing. Then she comes out going, "You won't believe what happens!"
Maggie Grace: I'm under constant inquisition from my grandmother. [Laughs] People also come up to me and say, "I'm so sorry your brother died." And I am, too. Boone cared about Shannon in spite of himself. And we all feel Ian [Somerhalder]'s absence. But we're a close group of friends, and we knew from day one that this was a deserted island fraught with danger. I certainly understand the reasons for [his death], and Ian does as well.
TVGuide.com: So... any second-season hints you can share with us?
Grace: I do know some of the story lines coming up. We're going to find out what's in the hatch quite early in the season — in the first episode, actually. We're also going to find out more about Jack's marriage, and some of Shannon's backstory as well. I'm very much looking forward to that. The previous episode that dealt with that was more from Boone's point of view, so I think it will give viewers an idea of who she is rather than how other people perceive her. We have a few clues — she was married, highly manipulative, that sort of stuff. And it's a possibility that Ian might come back for that [backstory].
Holloway: I haven't heard anything about what's coming because I've been away in Alaska, so this is the first time I've talked to anyone all summer. Damon did tell me, "Did you see the movie Open Water? Get ready to swim." That's all I know! Well, I also know that we have a new character [introduced at the end of last season and played by], Michelle Rodriguez (Girlfight). I don't know where Sawyer will fit in that. But I am looking forward to it, because Michelle has a reputation for being feisty, which I love. I can't wait to see what the writers do with her character and Sawyer. There's going to be some great sparks there, I think. At least I'm hoping!
TVGuide.com: What's your favorite part about doing the show?
Grace: I've been very happy with the relationship between Shannon and Sayid. It's very lovely and unexpected. And it means I get to work with Naveen [Andrews] a lot. He's fantastic. He's also something of a sex icon, so I feel very lucky in that respect. [Laughs]
Holloway: One of my favorite things has been the development of Sawyer's relationship with Kate, which has been such a cat-and-mouse thing. I'm a man and I love to work with a woman. I love the energy between men and women and I try to play with that. Me and Matt [Fox] have a great intensity together [as Sawyer and Jack], so I look super-forward to those days. And you've got to be up for it, because Foxy always brings the heat! I love how Naveen [as Sayid] and I have this grudging respect for each other. And I'm looking forward to doing more with Jorge Garcia (Hurley) — I've only had a couple of scenes with him. Mainly I'm looking forward to different scenes, different relationships and changing the existing ones. I have full faith in the writers.
TVGuide.com: What have you been working on during the hiatus?
Grace: I was in Vancouver making The Fog with Tom Welling. It was my first big studio movie, so it was a lot of fun to do. And the hours weren't as long as on Lost. Josh was up in Vancouver at the same time doing a movie, so I was happy to have him around to hang out with.
Holloway: I was shooting a movie called Whisper. It's about a group of people down on their luck and so they kidnap a kid for ransom and it turns out to be more than they bargained for. Let's just say that things go badly. My character is Sawyer-esque, but not really. He's just a good guy doing a bad thing for love. He's straightforward, whereas Sawyer is kind of twisted.
TVGuide.com: But now you're back for more Lost. How is filming going?
Grace: The show is still being shot in Hawaii, which is great. We were all lobbying for that. I don't know how you could get the same visual scope in an environment in L.A. In Hawaii, you can do these vast shots you can't find anywhere else. And it keeps the cast quite happy as well. Whenever there are really long hours, we always remind ourselves, "Well, we could be shooting in Burbank!"

Well, it's not my imagination ABC skipped an episode last week. And apparently, they're skipping another! Dang it....I'll really be confused now.....
Read all about it:

Question: I missed Lost the first time it was shown, and I was planning on catching up with the DVDs when they came out. But when I found out that ABC would be reshowing the episodes I started watching them there. Last night it picked up from a point I didn't remember, so I did some Internet research and realized they had skipped an episode and they are also skipping another episode next week. My question is, why did ABC say they were giving people a second chance to catch the season and then start skipping episodes? This is really not the type of series where you can miss episodes and still fully understand what is going on. I was blown away by the episodes I've seen, but I'm really put off by this mess. If they didn't think they had enough time to air the full season before the new ones started, then why not air two episodes a week? It's not like ABC doesn't have room on the schedule to do that. Before this I was planning to buy the DVDs anyway, but I really don't know anymore. Maybe I'll just borrow them from a friend instead or have Netflix send them. Bad move, ABC!! This is no way to keep viewers! — David
Matt Roush: I can't count the letters I've gotten this summer from people who somehow expect entire seasons to be rebroadcast during the summer, instead of selected highlights. I don't remember this ever being an issue before, but that may say something about the quality of shows being repeated this summer (most notably Lost and Veronica Mars, which, ironically, will be competing in the same time period this fall). To address the Lost gripe, I suppose ABC could have doubled up on the repeats some weeks, but the numbers for this and Desperate Housewives repeats have been depressed a bit this summer — many of these episodes were, after all, repeated more than once during the regular season as well. But let's be realistic: Until the networks get into the on-demand business (and it's probably going to cost you when they do), if you miss a show the first time around, the best chance to get the complete experience is to wait for the DVD. Or watch the repeats and fill in the gaps by doing a little reading online.

No it's not right! I would have loved back to back episodes each week, we want more than one hour!
Remember I said somewhere in the middle of a shelved VCR tape I have a few Lost episodes? When I was trying to catch up mid-year to this new show? Well, I really need to find them now! Gonna look again today....which is tedious, fast forward, play, fast forward somemore, play. Then you get sidetracked, go too far, rewind, play, etc. LOL
But I will try to find them. It would be neat if I found the ones they're skipping!!!

Well, I'm all confused now. If I can trust the episode description TV Guide has up for this coming Wednesday, ABC is skipping several episodes! Not one more....
Apparently, they skipped Claire's dream/abduction one.
They'll skip these next few:
- Jack, Kate and Sawyer fighting over the locked briefcase.
- Boone and Shannon's dark past coming to light.
They're gonna go right into the one delving into Walt's past!
Oh, if you go to this guide, they have several episodes up for Season 2...have no idea what info you'll read if you click on them though....

More Lost scoop.....

Question: What gives, man? The only Lost spoilers you gave us last week were things we already knew or assumed anyway. Give us some real scoop! — Marissa
Ausiello: With all due respect, I think my stunning revelation last week that aliens are not hiding out in the hatch most definitely qualifies as real scoop, Marissa. I'd go so far as to call it an all-out bombshell. But enough about that, let's get to the really real scoop. (MAJOR SPOILER ALERT) Among the burning questions Damon Lindelof and Co. plan to answer this season via flashback:
* Who is the woman Jack married? Yeah, we know she used to be on Ed, but who is she aside from that. (Look for this to be addressed early on, since Julie Bowen flew to Hawaii last week to shoot an episode.)
* How did Locke become wheelchair-bound?
* What exactly did Kate do to become one of America's Most Wanted?
* What was Hurley's prelottery existence like?
Also, Lindelof tells me that the mystery surrounding the crash of Oceanic Flight 815 — which was originally going to be solved in a minimovie on the first-season DVD — will be resolved this season. "By the finale of Season 2," he says, "you will know why the plane crashed."
Question: Any more scoop on Lost? — Beth
Ausiello: Here's another tidbit from Mr. Lindelof: "Right out of the gate in the season premiere, the numbers become a driving and fundamental plot point of the second season. I don't think people will be disappointed in what they are, what they mean and how they're being used."

LOST SCOOP FOUND!: Lost island is experiencing a bit of a population explosion as it heads into its second season. In addition to previously announced new regulars Michelle Rodriguez and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, producers are thisclose to signing a veteran female actress to join the show full-time, USA Today reports. For more on this developing story — including the identity of the "name" actress originally approached for the role — check out next week's Ask Ausiello. FOUND! LOST SUIT: It took a year, but we finally have our first Lost lawsuit. A Los Angeles-based writer named Anthony Spinner is suing ABC and Touchstone Television for breach of contract and fraud, claiming the hit show was based on his idea. Spinner says he was hired in 1977 to write a script for a prospective ABC series titled Lost about a group of plane-crash survivors stranded in a jungle. He seeks unspecified damages and a first peek inside the hatch.

TV Show Sibling rivalry........already? I wish Matt Fox hadn't said this.......of course his cast doesn't look that glamorous, next to those perfectly made up housewives......but still, I have to say I like Lost a tad more than DH. Why does this have to be a competition anyway?

NO LOVE LOST: ABC may boast two huge successes in Lost and Desperate Housewives, but the cast of one of them hasn't been feelin' the love, baby. As Matthew Fox tells Details, "[My Lost cast mates] feel like we’re the bastard stepchild of the two huge hits on ABC this year." As evidence, Fox points to bonuses and baubles that Housewives got, but Lost actors didn't. "There was crazy s--- over there from what I've heard," he says. His Theory? "The squeaky wheel gets the grease." Ouch, Matt just totally called Marcia squeaky.

Sunny/Cindy planned to. Keep this topic current and when Katrina's over and she can return home (if it's spared, we hope it is Cindy!), I'm sure she'll post about it. I know many fans plan to buy this first season. I was surprised they released Season 1 this early! Holiday Season 2005 seemed better timing for sales, but maybe producers/writers want to attract more fans? If it's not too expensive, I might buy it since they skipped key episodes this summer and now I'm even more confused, than ever!

Last night two Lost episodes were to air. The second rerun was preempted for a special on the aftermath of Katrina.
And I didn't even mind. That is saying something. The Katrina special was done very well and needed to be done.
I wish we could all back in time when discussing a TV show was fun. I'll tune in when the season starts, but it's not quite the same. Maybe I'll be into it all again, but this sure is a sad time for our country. Then again, maybe we'll all need the escape an hour long TV show brings us.
