Mike!!! I am lifting you and your family, especially your Dad to the Lord for comfort and peace. I lost my Dad to Colon Cancer in Jan. '99. Know that even though your Dad is suffering right now he feels much peace having you there as much as you can be.

Mike - I understand what you're going through also. I've been there, with my own father in 1985. We lost him in 5 weeks. I won't go into details but I can relate to the helplessness you feel. The frustration and trying to come to terms what will come next. I had my first baby then, she was only 10 months old. What a trying time! I had this new life I was nurturing and then visiting my dad in the nursing home, watching his life slip away. I cried each and every single day - on the way to visit him, I'd stop and put on a smile when I went into his room. Then I'd be a mess walking down the hall on the way to the car. Pull it together somehow before I got home. Didn't want to upset the baby. My husband would ask how my dad was doing and I'd be a mess again. I cried for a few years there, after losing him. So if there is anything that can help you is to tell you to let your feelings out. Share funny stories with your dad, memories special to both of you. Sit, hold his hand, play cards with him, things like that. Just spend as much time with him as you can. You will not be sorry. Wish I could offer you more than that but know that we're all praying for you both here at Storm2K.

Hugs and prayers.....

SF....I'm so sorry about your dad. I'm sure it is very comforting to him just having you there with him. I know that none of us can do anything to physically help your dad, but if you need a shoulder to cry on or just someone to talk to, I'm here for you. I mean it!

I will definitely keep all of you in my prayers!!

Thanks everyone for extending your prayers and thoughts to myself and my father and family. My half-sister and her husband will be coming up from Florida in the next couple of days to see him. Unfortunately, today his condition doesn't look like it's going to get better. He's still on the breathing machine with oxygen. To complicate things, we've had two powersurges tonight already, but fortunately, so far, they're just surges. The front of the neighborhood is without power (apartments, townhouses, and condos), but fortunately, our power is still on. Once again, thanks ... and also am working on probably taking an extended leave from work to be there for him, for better or worse.

Mike, My thoughts echo what was written above. It is tough making the choice between work and being there. You are doing everything you can, and that will help you find peace and in all this.

Once again, thanks everyone ...

Hospice informed me that based on the condition of my father, he had probably 6 weeks or less to live. He's not looking good and it's becoming increasingly difficult to function and bear what's going on. The primary doctor signed papers for FMLA and I picked those up today, and will be turning those in tomorrow at my primary station. As soon as the confirmation word comes in from Columbia, I will be taking time off to be there. This is the most difficult time I've been through, and so far...under the circumstances, I'm holding up as good as can be expected.

A lot of people I grew to know from TWC and here as well, and a lot of people I consider friends like I actually knew everyone in person. And it's nice to be able to talk to you all about the good times and the bad times even though I've never met (almost) everyone face to face. IMO, we have a close-knit community on Storm2k and feel very comfortable sharing some of my life and the problems that go along with it ... believe me, you all have helped me immensely in dealing with what is the most difficult and trying time in my life.

My father showed some happiness tonight and actually drank 2 Ensure supplement drinks. Speaking of family, my two half-sisters (his daughters from his first marriage) came up from Florida tonight along with one of my half-sis's husband, and my two nephews, and niece. We woke my father up and he looked so happy to see them tonight.

I'm so glad that they are here and they should be staying in the Charleston area for a couple of days. I saw my father smile for the first time in 4 days.

Just to let everyone know ... myself, and my family continue to appreciate the support. I didn't post anything, but I did get a chance to show off Storm2k to my brother-in-law, and my half-sis.

I'll keep everyone posted.

I am so happy that your family made it to SC. I am more thrilled at the reaction your Dad had at seeing them. A smile always warms the heart.
