I've seen all the ones you guys have listed above except for Children of the Corn. Guess I should check that one out.

OMG, Miss Mary! I LOVED Buried Alive! I remember when it first ran on USA Network. They've re-aired it a few times since then. It wasn't so much scary as it was wicked how he got his revenge.

One that scared the daylight out of me was Insomnia- and it wasn't even listed as a horror.

The composition of the film was so outstanding in making you feel like you were going just as crazy as the main character that it totally freaked me out- I could barely drive home from the theatre. Freaky!

Otherwise I tend to laugh at the classic horror movies.... I just can't believe it and so it doens't scare me!

Shawn - here ya go....

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0087050/

Many sequels to it, or other titles come up, that may or may not have to do with the original movie.

I was mistaken, Betty Davis wasn't in this one. What was the movie title she was in - set in a creepy, country town....she ruled the entire town.....kids were sacrified each autumn? Man that was a creepy movie. I could have this Betty Davis movie plot all tangled up with the Children of the Corn movie....if you read that plot, adults are sacrified. Word to the wise - avoid small towns at all costs!!!! J/K........

Could the Bette Davis film you're trying to think of be one of these? (I love IMDB too!)

Watcher In The Woods
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0081738/

Burnt Offerings
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074258/

Scream , Pretty Peggy

Scary Movies

#26 Postby sunnyday » Fri Oct 03, 2003 5:22 pm

Halloween 1 is my all-time favorite. I stumbled upon a good one today,
7 Days to Live. You might want to check it out.
The ORIGINAL House on Haunted Hill with Vincent Price is great, too, unlike the silly remake.

Duck, want to see a REALLY good movie that is soooooooo scary with suspense, probally not in the theatres anymore but I'm sure it will be out on video soon...it's called 28days(later?).It's not filmed in the normal hollywood sense rather it's video. To me a real "horror' movie is one that does not need blood and gore to scare th e beejeebers...it's the suspense that keeps you on the edge of your seat, keeps your eyes glued to the screen and makes you feel as if you are RIGHT there..28 days is that kind of movie. It does have a bit of gore, but I never saw it because I covered my eyes, the little I did see was enough to make me cover my eyes, it's the way it was filmed, the plot and the script that makes all the difference in my humble movie critic opinion.

My all time favorite movie is Jaws, I first saw it the summer it came out with my pappy, I was maybe eight.I love on a rainy day to make a bowl of popcorn and watch it all over again, and again and again.

The Birds(ah the oldies but goodies..they don't make them like that anymore) also is one that gives me that silly scary feeling, as well as The Shining and Pet Semetary( even reading those two books makes sleep with the light on.....still I love Stephen King)

I think the horror genre regarding movies is finally maturing. What I mean is that it seems to me that there are hundreds of "B" slash and gash movies(not to mention the never ending sequels) where there is always a nearly naked teen age girl being chased by the boogie man, her boyfriend almost always gets it in the end too.Movies like The Ring, 28days show that Hollywood has grown up a bit regarding plot, script and the filming of "horror" movies.

And that is my two cents :D

Blessings, Raine

Buried Alive I and II are being shown this morning on USA. Not sure if you'll get this in time to see them both (especially since it started 10 minutes ago). But I thought I'd at least mention it. :)

I think that "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" is the scariest one too.

Children of the Corn got to me. Hubby and me watched the first Halloween movie and got into a long discussion about scarey movies. In another topic - "the birds" is one of those scarey movies for me too.

Watcher in the woods featured in dreams and nightmares for YEARS. I watched it when I was very very small and didn't even remember the name or where I'd seen it. I just remember having all of these eerie dreams, and making up stories that were way too real to figgure in a sheltered 10 year olds memory.

It wasn't untill I was 18 that I finally accepted that it MUST have been a movie that I watched as a kid- it wasn't untill I was 22 and an extensive internet search for the elements that I remembered- that I found out it was watcher in the woods. Re-watching it as an adult was like watching all my dreams on screen... cool- but strange LOL

OG, I wonder if that's the one Miss Mary was talking about in an earlier post (Watcher In The Woods). It was on earlier today while I was at lunch, but I didn't get to see it. Maybe I'll rent it sometime.
