That is true.. I dont think myself or any other Rush defenders are saying he should get away with anything.. I just wanted to say that I support him and his right to say what he wants.

The freedom of speech and the ability to say what you want wether it by right or wrong in someone elses eyes and not be thrown in jail is one of the many things that makes America Great!!!

First of all, I think that Rush would the first person to jump all over someone else if they were found to have an addiction of some kind. I'm sorry, but I'm not giving this man the benefit of a double standard.
Secondly, he also said that he thought about this before he went on air Sunday night, so it wasn't an off the cuff, oops, "I didn't mean to sound", HE MEANT IT AS HIS OPINION. His opinion, therefore is that the only reason that Donovan McNabb is being hyped up by "the media" (I'm sure the word liberal was in there somewhere too - guess what, YOU ARE THE MEDIA !), is that he was black and they wanted to see one succeed. If it was just about his qualifications, why did he have to insert race to begin with? Shock value? Is it really neccessary to keep fanning the flames?

- you mean like Rush sympathizes with people with the same affliction? OH PLEASE!!!As I have said before, he may very well have an addiction, but that in itself does not make Rush a terrible person, rather somebody that most members on this board would sympathize with.

How about waiting to see if he's guilty of the accusations first? If the charges are unfounded then there's no double standard.

I have no problem with either Rush's comments or with ESPN's decision to fire him. He voiced his opinion and has stood by it. It embarassed his employers and they fired him. Such is the freedom and price of free speech. I don't see Rush's comments as racist though. Donovan McNabb is a talented quaterback and deserving of being an NFL quarterback. However, if he was a white quaterback with his stats he wouldn't have gotten nearly the same press play IMO. Is that wrong? Not in my opinion. People should use every advantage they have to get ahead! That's also the American way!

I agree Marshall. My only point is that while we're saying that everyone has a right to their opinion, I wish that it wll be remembered the next time someone criticizes the government, the war, economy, etc. that it is their opinion and that they are not un-American.
BTW - I did state my doubts in my first post about whether the allegations were true about his drug use since it did come from the National Enquirer.

Agreed Jonathan...which will be a misdemeanor charge IF anything. In cases such as this, (Purchasing and/or trafficking of prescription drugs specifically), they rarely prosecute the buyer.
Anyway... IMO he's probably not guilty: wink,wink

A letter to Rush
while we are on this subject, I'd like to share a letter that my brother-in-law wrote to Rush.

Dear Rush Limbaugh,
Rush as I am sure you probably know, because of your family’s background in law: the truth is always a perfect defense; and as such is not subject to slander laws.
I am disappointed that the Left was able to dispose of you so quickly. Your presence on a nationally broadcasted program that was not political in nature, really presented them with an immense conundrum. Now, for the first time the “Joe six pack” audience that belongs to unions, knows little about politics, relies on their union to tell them how to vote, (for Democrats) and is highly susceptible to any of their anti Bush news releases; could actually see and hear you! This evil person that the liberal left had worked so hard to demean and ridicule as an extremist to insure that their base would never listen to, at least with an open mind, was suddenly before millions of their politically anesthetized sycophants, speaking about a common subject :FOOTBALL! Surely, this weekly exposure to your character and logic as applied to football would earn you their respect and the realization that “ this Rush Limbaugh isn’t such a bad guy after all”. Ergo, a whole new class of EIB listeners would be spawned, and the liberal elites biggest fear, a huge new segment of polically astute, educated and thinking voters, would be realized from the legions of their former supporters.
You succumbed to the same techniques that the Left has been employing, since they were first identified by the prominent existentialist Soren Kierkergaard. He stated that anytime anyone, who threatened their control, became too well known and respected, “ they would unleash their dogs of the press and the leveling process would begin”. These dogs of the press are known as Kierkergaard’s dogs, and you just relented to their baying. In the present era the Liberals have added a new invincible dog to their kennel, one that is so feared that merely the mention of his name strikes paralyzing fear into the hearts of their enemies, e.g. (us). This new dog has been carefully nurtured and fastidiously developed in the past twenty years and has now ascended to lead dog. This is the dog that you, harmlessly, dared to mentioned in your commentary on Sunday’s Show and it appears that its name had the same effect upon you as would gazing at the “head of the hydra” in ancient times: paralysis.
Yes, Rush, this dog, unknowingly, still has a Master it has a seemingly symbiotic relationship with the Liberal Left yet it still settles for scraps and bones but will never feast at the banquet table with it’s Masters.
