Captincrunch, you and I are vastly outnumbered in our political outlooks here. It's so good to see someone who sees things as they are. 9/11 didn't happen while Clinton was president, so I don't understand how he can be blamed for it.

Why are people concerned about poor people paying taxes? The poor have so little that if they pay a little bit of taxes, that should be enough. Let's not take their last dime.

This an easy one to answer. President Clinton did nothing of substance when American interests were attacked overseas. On top of that his administration was responsible for the largest scale gutting of our intelligence services since the end of WWII. It's amazing what can happen in 8 years of stupidity!

Maybe you are the minority because you don't see things as they are. There are needy poor but consider those who are marginally so:

1. You can have food stamps. I worked for a well known chain in FL for 13 years. Some with food stamps would buy $20 or $30 worth of steak. I couldn't do that.
2. You get free Public Housing. I lived in a southern town with new public housing. 3 years later it was a slum. They did not pay for it so why take care of it.
3. JTPA- Job Training and Placement Act. Low income people got free training, gas money, electric bill payed and showed up for class in BMWs.
4. Medicaid- Free or reduced medical...need I say more.
5. AFDC- Aid to Family with Dependant Children
6. Subsidize daycare.
7. WIC for those with newborns...how many ever you have.
8. Healthy Start- Free medical services for mothers and newborns.
9. Subsidize Mental Health Counciling
10. Earned Income Tax Credit- Tax subsidy for those who are low wage earners. (A tax cut?)
11. School Breakfeast and Lunch program.
12. SSI

Those are just the big ones and I did not include help from Catholic Social Services and others. I'm not denying people are out there who need it, but I think the fact that they receive this aid is tax cut enough. We get excited because a tax cut will cost programs, but we don't mind giving tax cuts and programs too, to a group of people.

I suggest that if we limited the scope of some programs that the marginal poor would be motivated to work harder to better themselves. Then the poor who really need help would in fact get more help to get on their feet.

threat to peace

This is one case where I'm proud to be in the minority. I shouldn't have said that we see things the way they are. Democrats interpret things as best they can, as do Republicans.

If Clinton was so terrible, why weren't we attacked when he was president?

Sheesh...where were you. The first WTC bombing, the embassy bombings, Somalia, the Cole. They ring a bell?

That's the point! We were attacked and nothing was done! Just like if you let your children get away with the little things they try bigger and bigger things. Clinton had a chance to extradite Bin Laden and did nothing! That's why Clinton shares a big portion of the blame! Not all of it but a big part....

Of course, I'm aware of the incidents you mentioned. Isn't Ramsey Yusef in prison for the WTC bombing years ago?
I was only asking why didn't 9/11 happen under his watch?

Because Osama bin Laden, after watching the feckless manner in which Clinton operated, expected the same from ANY American President; he SADLY misjudged President Bush AND the American people, if he thought we'd "roll over" and let it go!

very simple!! they were planning the atTack while he was in power. he left them alone to plan the attack in peace. it took years to get 9/11 planned. THANKS CLINTON!!

About 9/11

#32 Postby george_r_1961 » Wed Nov 19, 2003 10:06 pm

Well im no expert on Middle Eastern affairs or anything else for that matter but wasnt Osama under indictment long before 9/11? Why didnt we bring him here to justice. Surely the CIA could have pulled some of their agents out of their drug dealing operation and sent them overseas to apprehend Osama. Why wasnt it done? The tragedy of 9/11 might have never happened if the US would have been more agressive in apprehending this mass murderer. Whos to blame? You figure it out its obvious.

Because Clinton chose to turn the other cheek when WE could have extradited him from Sudan! The CIA was handcuffed as was our military during the Clinton Administration.

I am glad you explained all this Marshall because I repeat the same things over and over.

I will also agree with Captin'C: Ronald Reagan built up the economy, the armed forces, our political strength. Mr. Bush senior continued in that vein. Then we got the non-stop smirk with a cigar who could never look serious when events started to hit the crapper. I'm glad we have BushII at this point; he's got backbone and is not an airhead; a conservative is what we need during bad economic times, plus he's a Republican. We're beginning to come out of one of the darkest periods in history for our country; let's not screw it up by removing a leader who has worked hard at very difficult situations from almost the get-go and put someone with training wheels into office at this time. It's not prudent. This is not the time to experiment with abilities. We know what he can do, we know his team. Let them do their jobs. It's turning around. Sorry, but a Democrat at the helm is not a good idea with the issues we have in the Middle East and the economy. You think they're cutting services and college courses now? Do the switch and watch the Atmospheric Sciences, etc. departments disappear at even a faster rate. There would be even less jobs for current workers or upcoming graduates. No thanks, I'll back the Bush 8-)
