OK - I just called my Mom to get the story
straight: I was 3 months old, sitting in her lap,
taking a bottle....the phone guy was there, working
on the telephone, and, it came on the TV that
the President had been shot, and, she called to
the phone repairmen to come and watch....
...I was taking that good 'ole bottle, totally
oblivious to the situation...
Where were you the day JFK was assassinated????

I was in 6th grade, and had just delivered a presentation about geology as it relates to dinosaur fossils, then went to lunch with the rest of the class.
We had just returned to our classroom (it was raining outside, so we spent our recess there) when a shaky voice announced over the school speakers that the President had been shot. Being in the "highest" grade, we got a TV delivered posthaste, and watched the reports as they came in.
I recall feeling drained and "empty" as I walked home slowly from school in the cold rain that afternoon; it was as if the world as I understood it came to an abrupt end. That entire weekend was spent under a cloud of unreality. We spent most of it at the lake house we had (at my Dad's insistence), away from TV and radio, but that did nothing for the pall of loss that we felt.
I imagine that coppertop will feel the same about 9-11 when he's my age.

I was at work at Weirton Steel. The news spread like wildfire and everyone came out of their respective offices and congregated in the halls. I can remember the feeling of fear, emptiness and sadness. I did not like President Kennedy's policies. He scared the sh!t out of me during the Cuban missle crisis and his handling of the Bay of Pigs was a shame, but he was our President and I have to admit I was caught up in the "Camelot" syndrome. I remember watching TV and crying at the sight of his family and all their loss. I was impressed by their bravery and strength during that time.

I was in seventh grade. My best friend ran up to me screaming(delightedly I might ad)that President Kennedy had been shot. I thought he was bsing because of the way he told me, but soon found out that it indeed was true. I too remember that feeling of numbness Bill. Glued to the tv and bawling my eyes out when "John-John" saluted the casket and then walked up and kissed it at the cemetary. I can name everyone that was around me and take you to the exact spot I was in to this very day.

David, did you ever find out why your friend was delighted?
