Yeah, but you're pretty cool about the whole thing anyway. It'd be interesting to find out what someone with views like Derek or Rick would say to their own children. (But I don't know if they have any.)

Would I accept my kids if they told me they were bi or gay? Of course I would. I would still love them and accept them for who they are.
I don't agree with the lifestyle, but who am I to judge anyone? Homosexuals have done no more wrong that I have. My only problem with some of them is the way they present themselves. I like the way Rainband put it the other day in one of his posts....he said he doesn't flaunt it and doesn't bother anyone. I think that's the way everyone should be...gay/straight/bi. Keep your sex life to yourself cause I really ain't interested in hearing about it LOL.

LOL!!!

I agree with everything I have seen here! Britney and Madonna just love attention, and they will do anything to get it! As far as what is seen on tv....if they portrayed gay/lesbian couples as they are in reality, it wouldn't be "interesting" anymore and would lose ratings, and you know they CAN'T do that.

Did I go to public school? Yes Will my children? Yes No big deal, private schools have the same issues...

And if I have a gay/lesbian child? Then I do!! Nothing would ever make me not love my own children!!! It's not the life I live, but why does everything have to be the way it's "supposed" to be?

I went to a Catholic elementary school. But that was a long time ago. Times have changed since then.

My kids go to public school. Oldest one's in 6th grade. I watch their homework pretty closely. This is a fairly conservative area. I see a little political correctness and "new think," but not much. for instance I see a lot of multicultural "names" in the word problems: "Jamal has 35 jelly beans....."
The social studies is pretty close to what I learned, but I see some questions like "How do you think the indians felt about their land being taken by the white man." I don't see a lot of moral relativism - yet. They are getting pretty indoctrinated into an anti-drug abuse mind set.

Your timing on this thread is amazing! Just yesterday, I had to excuse one female student because of complaints from several other girls who were tired of listening to a very revealing conversation!

Unfortunately, I agree that some of today's youth have been de-sensitized to "normal". I know.....I know..... what exactly IS "normal"? In this "every-thing-goes" life-style that (like it or not) we all are included in, there are few guidelines available......or positive role-models......for our youth to see.

I teach at a vocational school. Daily I have contact with 50 students. I have to admit, I often use my position there to teach things OTHER than expected subject matter! I realize that absolutely everything I say and do is being taken as an example, and is part of "learning". From raising my eyebrows at off-colored comments.....to taking the time to listen to very-real challenges some of the kids have in their lives.....from throwing back my head and laughing at my own mistakes......to showing honest joy at their accomplishments.......my goal is to help these kids be able to make good decisions and understand the consequences of bad ones.

Yes.....there does seem to be some sort of "acceptence" to lesbian behavior......I blame the media, and parents who seem to be absent from their children's lives.......p

I suppose I'm basing that particular comment on the fact that when I grew up in the 60's........every one of my friends and I KNEW exactly what the words "homosexual" and "lesbian" meant.......but it was not discussed. This topic asked if anyone thought the "openness" of lesbianism is a new trend in our schools......and my opinion is YES!!

What I objected to IN THE CLASSROOM was a young girl making rude, crude, and revealing comments that drew complaints from those around her. If there is similiar conversation of hetrosexual relationships.....my actions would be the same ....p

Petal pusher, when I was in the classroom, I also taught "extra curricular" things...morals, values, self worth, etc...because 9 times out of 10, if the teacher doesn't do it, it doesn't get done. So many of our kids today are being thrown out to fend for themselves. I'd venture to say that in the past, 90% of the kids I taught didn't have a father figure in their home....of that 90% probably half of them didn't have a clue who their father was and their mom had a different "boyfriend" at the house each night. I had one kid in 3rd grade a few yrs back who's mom would lock him and his brothers out while she turned tricks in the house to support her drug addiction...
My point? Keep doing what you are doing. Those kids need a good role model and it sounds to me like they've found a great one in you!
Sorry, this is off topic. had to vent a little lol.

My children are my children and nothing is going to change that. If one of them were to declare themselves gay, that would be their choice.
I would still love them.
peace

*gaaaaaag* I still hate that second word! I'm "AMERICAN," dammit! If you live in America and are a citizen of America, you are an American. Bugs me that just because some damn gay female poet from years ago lived on an island near Greece, so now the rest of us have to share the name of those people who lived on that island. Stupid! Makes NO sense! My island is Galveston, thank ya very much!

Silly Republican rainbow-rebel-rousing vent over. :)

Something has been bugging me. Maybe ya'll can answer this question. Dont' mean to sound racist, but what's with the politically correct names now-a-days?
African American
Spanish American
Indian American
ETC
So, what does that make white folks? lol It's always been my belief that if we were born in the US, we all are Americans. Why put some foreign country's name in front of it?
Sorry, way off topic.

Two of my co-workers are black and they prefer "black."

Oh, no, please...don't apologize. Go off-topic. Go waaaaaaaay off-topic. Anytime you want to digress from this topic, please....by all means, go right ahead. :) I kinda get tired of the topic subject lines of this nature being in my face. No offense to J and others who post (and I know J meant no offense in posting this in the first place, nor did he cause any - at least, to me, anyway). But it just screams at me like some of the anti-Bush crap does. Where is that guy from Rome anyway?
