Well I have had 6 root canals and 6 crowns during my lifetime - guess what the crowns don't last forever and you have to get them redone eventually. I can't imagine what my parents spent on my teeth and what I have as an adult. I have a very small mouth so my root canals usually take two appts. One time my mouth go so sore that I started getting cramps in my jaw - I think the dentist knew then that my tolerance was very small.

Had a root canal when when I was 26. Very unpleasant, but I have to admit..the recovery medicine wasn't half bad. I think the Dentist got wise to me when I called him up and asked him for a 3rd refill of the Percosets.

Mary is absolutely right about "our" generation. In the future, Dentists will have to find another avenue to rake us over. You can bet your last dollar that everyone will need cosmetic dentistry of one form or another.

J - I think it's orthodontics - braces. I grew up fine with slightly crooked teeth. My kids teeth are about the same. Everytime they're in for a checkup he recommends that they get seen by orthodontist.

A luxury back then is suddenly a necessity. Everyone wants to be Britney Spears or something.

Wow everyone, I didn't expect such a good response to this topic. Seems everyone was chomping at the bit to discuss this!

THINK Sonicare. I love this toothbrush and have used it since it came out back in 1990 or so. It costs about $100 bucks but is worth every penny.

I've never had a root canal and don't want one. I have 2 crowns and that's enough.

What kind of soup do you recommend?????

Oh, Ed - I spent last YEAR at the dentist's
office - only saw the family doctor ONCE, for
the flu! I had a root canal, two crowns, and an
extraction (plus x-rays and such)- after insurance paid (thank God), the bill that I received the
other day was for $492.20. The extraction was
on one of the teeth that he crowned - abcess!!
Pulled that critter before the crown job was
even paid for! My teeth are very straight, but,
my old fillings that I got in my early 20's are
starting to collapse. Wonderful, eh? :o

Hang in there - suddenly, partial plates are not
looking so bad, after all....;)
