Thank you for your thoughts and prayers, they mean a lot to me!

Ossa was 13 years old, she was a tough dog, we thought the end was a few months back, BTW, thanks AGAIN Linda for being my sounding board in those days.....she bounced back and did pretty well until last week, we knew it was only a matter of time.

Steve....that's what makes it SO hard, the LOVE they give.....like you said, it's TOTALLY unconditional, no matter how BAD of mood your in, they're ALWAYS there at your side, you can yell at them, they don't care....Ossa was there for me many a bad days, she'd look up at me with those big brown eyes, give me a lick and it's like she said, "Ya know what, it ain't ALL that bad, I'm right here for ya!"

Yes it's hard, VERY hard....but like everyone's said, she's in a FAR better place now, chasing balls and swimming till her hearts content.

Dennis, I remember all the photos you sent me of Ossa and Sweetz...happy tails wagging, waiting for that "extra" piece of cheese, always THERE...

Well, she IS always there, and waiting for you...just a little way up the path, there, tail wagging. Bring some cheese when you meet Ossa again on the way into His Kingdom...He won't mind.

She had arthritis really bad, hip troubles....she woke us up this morning with labored breathing, panting...we knew what we had to do. Putting her down was the hardest thing I've had to do.....I've had to put one other dog to sleep, it didn't hurt as bad as this. Ossa was MY buddy, my huntin' pal, she was the BEST duck dog a man could ever own. Rest in peace my dear pup......you deserve it.

Dennis, I am very sorry to hear about the loss of your dog, Ossa. :(

Dennis, This is a sad time for you but as others have said, a happy time for your pup. Making the decision to put a companion down is not easy but usually the most merciful. We put our 16 year old lab down the day before we left for vacation and it was heart breaking but I was there when she passed and I will always remember the look of relief in her eyes. Sad, but such peace for her and me both. She is buried in the back yard with one of those dog statues marking her grave and I get some solace just knowing she is now frolicking, pain free, with my pups that came before her. My thoughts and heartfelt sympathy are with you during this lonely time.

Once again, Thank you all....I just can't believe how hard I'm taking this. Funny thing, I woke up this morning with this song on my heart, it's an OLD Tom T. Hall song, "Old Dogs and Children and Watermelon wine" The line about the old dogs, "Old dogs care about you even when your feeling down!" Ain't that the truth.

Now, this maybe be hard for some of you to read, if so, don't read it. The reason I'm having such a hard time with this is......they gave her a tranquilizer before the final injection, the tranq. knocks them out, no pain.....then the vet did the final injection, it took over 35 minutes for Ossa to let go, she finally had to inject her heart and it STILL took another 4 minutes for her to give in to the meds. The vet said she's only seen this a few times and she FIRMLY believes it's due to the dog being SO LOYAL, she didn't want US to hurt, she knew. That my friends, is what was SO hard, KNOWING how LOYAL she was to us...

Dennis, as usual I'm late in finding things!!!

Btdt, with our 13 yr old lab a couple of years ago. I never thought I would bawl the way I and my son did when we left her at the vets. Know that you made the best decision and just as with us(the human variety) your companion is in God's place now and free of pain and worrys.

I'm sorry to hear of your loss Dennis. I know how you feel. My Dogs name was Baby Marie. She was a golden Lab. She came to Me after my wife had left me. Baby had filled a hole no human, at that time, could ever fill. We were inseparable. I had her for a year when she started having intestinal problems. The Vet told me there was nothing He could do and that she was suffering. I prayed that day, and cryed, and prayed some more. I spent an hour with her alone petting her and just letting her know that I was there and then the Vet put Her to sleep. I didn't cry that hard when the X left. That dog kept my head in the game and my spirit alive. I'll never forget her and never want to. So in memory of Ossa and Baby Marie my prayers go out to you. Be strong brother.
