Sunny...we all feel like throwing up. We want it to go away. We want to wake up to a world without hate and anger and killing.
We learn a great deal from history. Genecide is still happening (800,000 in Ruwanda 10 years ago...Iraq, too..and more). Civil Wars will rage. Religious wars in the name of God inspire both the best and the worst in us.
Recently former President Carter suggested that there should "be peace at any cost."
What an ideal that represents....but history tell us again that peace at all costs will be just that. All costs. Wars and death and killing will not stop.
Thank God our troops believe in their mission. They believe in the importance of preserving what they know as good and decent and fair. As basic human rights.
These young men and women know the risk. And while they may wish they were home here in the US of A, they are doing a job they believe in. How great a sacrifice is that?
I want it to stop too. The pain is so very sad...and loss is so permanent for those whose family members are gone forever.
But the ideals are worth the risk, even the price. I am so very proud of these young kids. From experience, I know they spend time away from the high risk areas holding children in need of love, finding ways to get food for families, laughing and entertaining those Iraquis who have not laughed in years.
We don't hear those stories...but they are happening as sure as I am writing this.
Our resolve as a nation is being tested. Our personal resolve is too. And it will be tested more...in even more painful ways.
But we must never ever forget that the cause of peace and justice and freedom is a worthy one. We fight that battle one day at a time, one handshake at a time, and on the home front as well as the battlefront.
Hang in there Sunnyday. Out of this pain will be new seeds for the future. It will really happen. In small ways, perhaps, but it will happen.

It seems that for the first time in their history, shiites and sunnis are joined together. The "Iraq own government" apparently is not very liked by iraquis, if two groups known to be hostile to each other unify their wills.
It looks to me these fights are not much a matter of terrorism, they look more like people fighting for their... what? Freedom? Interests? Religion? Not actually terrorism anyway. It sounds really funny to me...
Now going back to ww2, I remeber italy, france, poland etc... fighting to get their freedom, together with liberation forces.
Why Iraq people did not very much to be free and expedite Saddam's end when it was the time, while now they react so badly to their liberators?
Can we still continue on talking of isolated terrorist actions? Can we still continuing on calling them terrorists? It's full of terrorists there, no doubt, full of foreign terrorists from Iran, Yemen, Syria, Saudi Arabia and so on. But when the people moves, we should start wondering.
I do wonder, what about you?

Where you get that the Sunnis and the Shiites are together is beyond me. These groups hate each other with a passion. What's happening is pretty clear to me. Each group you mentioned is positioning itself to grab power for itself. The radical Shiites want to impose a Iranian type government, the Sunnis want a return to their dominance. If they can force the US out of the country they might just have a chance but we can't and won't let that happen.
Your view of WWII is also slanted beyond reality. How about the Vichy Frence that collaborated with the Germans even turning in their own countrymen that were fighting for freedom. How about the Italians facists who supported Benito until they knew they were going to lose and only then changed sides. There are plenty of Iranians who want and will have their freedom. Unfortunately these people don't make the news as much as the others. I've talked personally to several servicemen that have retirned and tell a vastly different story than what the liberal media portrays to us nightly.

I perfectly know this point, 8sep is still a date that cause much sorrow here. Those supporting Benito beyond that date were as much italians as those supporting Badoglio (that is not recognize to be a high level figure).
Anyway partisans were fighting against nazi/fascists well before 8sep.
About "liberal news", we have 3 state channels and 4 big private national channels, plus dozens of local channels. I guess that all these channels can hardly be considered tobe all "liberal" or all together not giving a correct information...
The problem here is that you don't accept criticism. "With me or against me". That's why only few (and always the same) are posting here. You have no discussion, because you tend to aggressively react to those not staying on your part and supporting your party. Read your posts: a list of "I agree" "you're right" "yeah". You should change the forum name: be republican or enter at your own risk.

I say bomb 'em with leaflets that show photos of Chernobyl, Hiroshima, and Nakasaki. Then see if they wise up. If not, send 'em several megatons and a big mushroom cloud.

Actually the problem here lies with you. You do not want to debate and when you are called on the table with truth and facts you start this. Typical and some things never change!!

I do beg yr pardon?
everytime I post something here, you say "it's from liberal news, nothing true then". Only what you read and copy/paste is the holy truth!!!
What shall I put on the table? I express my opinions, based on what I see, hear and believe. I believe, I do strongly believe this war is totally wrong. What your "non-liberal-but-the-whole-truth" news are not reporting is that yr troops are treating the whole iraqui population without any respect. They have no respect at all of their customs.
Falluja is now surranded by US troops, 300.000 civilians are kept in terror of revenge by Marines that blocked all roads, nobody can enter/exit the town, searches are made house by house, all hinabitants are seen and treated as terrorists. Would you think those civilians are celebrating US troops giving them freedom? You're starting a "holy war" and the whole world will pay the consequences.
Can you believe this? How would I know? Of course, from "untrue-liberal-just-against-Bush-news".
Ciao

urrrrgggghhhh! Exactly how many soldiers do you actually know that are in Iraq payloa? I suspect you don't personally know of any, for if you did, you might be enlightened to what is actually going on there and the good that has been accomplished.
I feel sorry for you...with all your hatred for America. It saddens me...no....it pisses me off actually!

LOL!! And the liberal biased news media is not reporting anything good out of Iraq here in the United States either. So what is your point?
Revenge by the Marines? What purpose does that serve? That is nothing but anti American spew from you. Holy War? How can that be proclaimed when in fact, those people have been declaring a Holy War since the beginning of time. But, now that we are freeing them they are free to worship who they want to. And typical that you are blaming the US troops and Bush for it. ROFL!! Give all that up Paolo and quit using the past to make your case. Because we all know that if it were not for the good ole United States military you would be spewing in German right now.

I do not know them personally, but in my heart and mind, EVERY young airman, seaman, soldier, Coast Guardsman and Marine is my brother/sister in arms!
My service was thirty years ago...these fine young people are now serving, as age creeps upon me and my generation, and I am PROUD of every last one of them,...and would stand WITH them if I could.
Not only that, Paolo..I have a son who, in two year's time, will be of military age, and he's seriously looking into the USAF...with my blessing.

Dennis...I was saying today to some staff at work that it would be interesting to see a rapid withdrawal of all our troops about 3 days before June 30th...followed by some well-placed ordinance that put an exclamation point on the need to make the new government work.
Your suggestion is one that is certainly on the table for consideration.
Loosing our guys at the rate of 12 a day is not acceptable. We need to be decisive..and continue our emphasis on our resolve.
We did not have that in Vietnam. We need it in Iraq.
