I think maybe it's time for us to pull out.I really think we are digging a hole here.No matter what happens from this point, It's a total no win situation, and we are losing to many Americans. We really don't even know who is the real enemy.(sometimes I think it's us!!)How sad is that!! viet nam repeat,we're we dupped again??

This war business hits a sore spot for me as I nearly lost a couple of my cousins when the thick of things were/was still going on in Iraq. As we are still experiencing some decent resistance in the Mideast; and one of my cousins is due to head back I believe; this makes me all the more nervous. I sincerely hope that Bush gets his head out of his rear and sincerely realizes the extreme danger that he is placing our men and women in by leaving them in Iraq in such hostile conditions.

LakeEffect and Josh... There is more good than bad happening over there but the media only allows you to see the bad. IMO, the media is the one that has their heads in their rears, not the President of the United States.
Another case and point.... this is not another Vietnam and will never be another Vietnam. Get the media out of your head.

In terms of why we're there and what we're doing, there is no way this can be compared to Vietnam. The only possible comparison I can see is that some people are protesting the war and are expressing anger at what some of our guys (a mere handful) are doing over there -- kind of like how the protestors in the 60's and 70's called our guys babykillers and such. It bothers me that our men and women are losing support over there because of what a handful of goons did.
Heck, if you want to get technical -- our soldiers have guns, just like they did in Vietnam. *gasp!* Horrors! It IS just like 'Nam!!!
On another note, just where the heck did the hoods and dog leash come from?

IMO, it has BEEN MOAB time for a long time when you really get down to it. Nick Berg's death is as bad as Daniel Pearl's, Lori Piestewa's, and all the rest. Those pigs over there continue to do some seriously sick crap while the Iraqi people cheer. How many MORE times are we going to see videos and pictures that anger us and make us yell, "It's time to drop the bombs! It's time for more shock and awe!"
Just what are we waiting for??

Of Course
we could do what the old Roman Legions would do in unruly occupied villages-they would call out all males above the age of 10 and line them up and kill every 10th one (which is where we get the word decimate) or we could do what the Germans and Japanese did during WWII kill 10 Iraqis for every American killed. Certainly those who are doing these things should be run to ground and turned over for torture before being killed, but as much as I dislike Arabs (and I do with a passion) it would be a messy proposition to get rid of all those decomposing bodies if we killed all of the Iraqis. The idea of going after the religious shrines since this is a "Holy War" is a legitimate one in my estimation since I believe in Total War but remember that can work the other way as well.

Forget decimate...how about "annihilate" which comes from the Latin nihil which means nothing as in, "Aye, aye, sir...there is nothing left!"

I agree with David and Shawn. We can't back down now, that's why they did this. The murder of Mr. Berg was just that, a murder, they can't tie it to the abuse in that prison. They have done worse to our POW's. If we pull out now, we are defeated, not because we lost, but because they won by scaring us out. We need to go in with everything we have and not come out til our mission is accomplished.

Do two wrongs make a right? Anyone who wants to kill thousands of innocent Muslim civilians is just as bad as the few Arabs who do support Al Qaeda's killing of American civilians. What makes you think that they should be killed? Do you all view the innocent Arab civilians as second class somehow?

mrschad wrote:Nystate, what are the numbers? Give me percentages. I know they won't be exact, but ballpark it. How many innocents are there still in Iraq? Compared to how many terrorists?
Well, if I were to guess, I would say in Iraq- approx. 20-30% of the population could be classified as terrorists.
In other Arab countries- (Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon, the UAE, Kuwait) I would say about 5-10% of the population could be classified as terrorists. Keep in mind that while many Arabs will condemn US policies, very few would actually go as far as to kill innocent civilians as revenge.
