Garrett, I join your ranks! LoL, looks like I'm
"Miss Small Town Storm2K", so far.....:ggreen:

Unsure about the exact current head count - HAS
to be less than 900, right here in the unincorporated
city limits! (*Blink your eyes, you'll miss it!)

Sikeston, MO, shopping hub for the Bootheel and home of the "Rednick Oh-lim-picks", has 17,000 souls who are desperately in need of frontal lobotomies.

That's definitely the truth...we drove by there on our way to Springhill, Louisiana and we noticed the rednick pop-u-lation was pretty prevelent!

Estimated population of Douglasville in 2002 was 22,000.

Douglas County's population topped the 100,000 mark last year.

pojo, I can count the "cognoscenti" and "literati" on the fingers of one hand...and four of them live here in my apartment!

The remainder are "australopithecine" at best...except for Annabelle ("Canis prostitutia majora"), who is a class all by herself.

Ladson, SC is a small area which continues to grow just outside of North Charleston, and Summerville. Already 15,000+ residents and growing faster than unwanted fingernails.. (ok, bad comparison)

Scottsdale AZ...where I've lived for the last 6 years, has a population of about 220,000. I grew up in Belvidere, Illinois, where the population has always been less than 20,000...until I left, then it grew fast!

Maricopa County, where Phoenix lies, is the second fastest growing county in the US next to Dallas, I believe. We are gaining an average of something like 130 new people PER DAY here...we get more people in a month than some of you have in your whole town!

And in the winter months...we get a whole ton of people here from Minnesota, Illinois, Wisconsin, the Dakotas, Montana, Idaho, Washington, and all the northeastern states, too. After income tax day, most of them hit the road back to their homes for the summer.

This is yet another one of my 'Hobbies',interests.I have been interested in Populations,Growth Trends,Demographics, etc since I was a lad.My Father was an Attorney and Engineer turned CEO/CFO of his Intl' Land Development Corp..he was also a well known Amateur Archeo/Paleantologist with one of the largest collections of Fossils/Minerals and Pre Colombian Art in the world. He started his 'hobby' in 1957 in Brasil where I lived for a short time as a Boy.His firm was heavily involved in developing the new Capitol of Brazil from Rio where we lived to 'Brasilia' in the middle of the Amazon Rainforests & Plateau, from Mud and dense jungles to an Ultra Modern City Complex, fully sustained...It was based on the 'Canberra,Australia Model'.He passed away in 1996.
He had Text book after reference book on 'Population trends' with overlays and 50-100 yr projections based on 1950 data..indutrialised vs what we have become familiar with today..Hi-Tech...and of course, they had no clue then, that immigration would again retread our cityscapes or that retirees' life expectancy would increase to the '80s or that child birth death rates would fortunately reverse themselves all adding to explosive growth patterns in the 'New Cities' and a Rennaissance in older ones.
I studied these wonderful books, and marveled at the charts and graphs. This is all pre modernesque-computer..1950!This is hard data as it was known then. The new terms"SMSA" or Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area'..or 'MSA' and 'CMSA' as they are known now were developed after WW2..the start of the Baby Boom.Prosperity..Autos and Fwys..Transcontinental and Transoceanic Air Travel!Rail and Ship were reassigned from the Top Dogs to Modern Air Travel..the Lockheed Constellation or 'Connie' and the longer sleek 'Super Connies' were the last of the elegance in Prop Aircraft. The Boeing 707 was now the fast, sexy babe of the skies..a Jet.Capable of 500+mph at 40K ft with 'AstroVision' closed circuit TVs overhead..in 1959!..what a Jet!I still love the 'Connies' and the '707's.I practically 'lived' on aircraft as a boy..city to city,I wanted to know all I could about the next Port-'o-Call on Dad's exxtensive intinerary.By the time I was 12yrs old,my passport was stamped nearly to death!I loved each city.Every tall building,I memorized.I loved the 'scent' of each new place.Unique.The hustle and bustle of Airports and Cities.Wonderful!Languages, customs, music and art.Food and funny looking 'speedometers' in KILOmeters in the Taxis!!!The Libraries,Museums and travel to the Pryamids of Mexico which I climbed with Dad at age 11.The Sun and the Moon.
By the time I was 12 I was flying commerciallyInternationally back and forth to Boarding Schools in Mexico,Switzerland and California, and would join Dad on his combined expeditions of Business and Archeology. How he found the time is beyond me!I was forced to entertain myself on these long trips..and along with me came Weather books and the Pop/Demo references.'Tornadoes of Texas' to 'Future US Metro Corridors',I was a Sponge for: Knowledge!Oceanography,Language,Architecture,Art,Music,War Chronicles,Aircraft,Navigation,Horticulture,Ships,Rail,Weather,Topography,Demographics,Geology,Cartography,Geography,Autos,Literature,Business Finance,Politics,Space Sciences.ANYTHING that caught my attention,I wanted to learn it NOW!By age 14,I got into the future of Computer Electronics!New stuff and exciting.
Those flights could last 8-10 hrs at a time. Some were non stop, and extended the time.I loved every moment of it.
And so..to answer the question..LOL!
Oro Valley,AZ is a town incorporated in 1974 NW of the City of Tucson in the foothills of the Santa Catalina Mountains.Pop est for yr 2000 is approx 35,000 with the new annexations of Rancho Vistoso, Village of Tortolita..and should be close to 85,000 when the 'Casas Adobes' annexation is completed in a few years.
Metro(SMA) Tucson as per yr 1990 census was:660,000 Yr 2000=844,100!Yr 2002 estimates put us at over 900,000 by the yr 2004.And 1 Million+ in 2007.
Area Sq Mi was in 1990 /196.7 now it is over 261sq mi. We have an avg density of 6,700 ppl per sq mi. Very low,as we have 'Sprawl'.National Avg for cities of over 500,000 is 11.3K per sq mi.
That is about a 26.5% avg. increase in Pop./
The city of Tucson in yr 2000=488,000 with revised 2002 est of 503,000.
We rank just above New Orleans in this regard in the 'Top 50'.
This however, seems to me,rather small and sleepy in comparison to my home of the San Francisco Bay Area.
Here are some stats. When I left in 1993,the last census in 1990 had SFO/SJC Metro ranked #4.'The City' itself is tiny..only 46.5 Sq Miles!Packed into her is 778,000 residents with an astounding 16.8Thousand residents per sqaure mile!!!This is why one may see the 'Mahattanization' of SF,with the forests of Hi-Rise structures.Much like Hong Kong. When one cannot grow outward..the only way..IS UP!There is also the 'anti-sprawl' initiatives there..resulting in the absurd avg price for a medium sized homw of over 575,000 dollars, over 3 times the Natl' Avg!That's for a 1900 sq ft,3 brdm ,45 yr old 'fixer-upper'.Ditto for San Jose, which has a larger population at $550K and even Oakland is pushing 410,000 for an 'average' home.Bye-Bye American dream.YET in 1990,the 9 county SFO SMSA was 6,300,000 in 1990!In yr 2000 it was:7,039,362. It is estimated that over 7.2Million inhabit the SF Bay Area.Hail Hi-Tech!
So,you see, that is what I was used to..an area nearly 8 times the sizeof TUS just in Population! When ppl here complain about the 'traffic' I crack up!LOL!
SF is a World Class City, approaching the 'Megaloplois' title, like Los Angeles.LA Metro? The BIG #2!Try this on for HUGE:In 1990 LAX SMSA=was 14,531,529. In yr 2000? A whopping 16,373,645 and GROWING! Over 500 sq miles of Fwys and strip malls.Between 1990 and 2000,over 1.85 MILLION ppl joined the Los Angelenos Mega Sprawl. This,in the most populous State with over 30Million!Larger than Canada's entire population.
Only NYC Metro with 21,199,865 is larger than LA.
Chicago Metro with 8Mill+ is next.Philly at 5.9Mill then Detroit at 5.5Mill/
Houston at 5.2Mill/Boston and Atlanta tied,(Metro ATL with a staggering increase of 1.152Million new residents in ten yrs!) both at 4.15Mill/Dallas 4.04Mill/Wash DC at 3.93Mill/ Miami at 3.2 Mill with over 683,000 new residents in ten yrs.
Then comes Phoenix...I nicknamed 'Lost Angeles,AZ'..LA in a MicroWave..No Beach!The Metro Phoenician area with 2,288,480 sunburned transplants.An UNREAL increase from 1990 to 2000 of OVER 1.013 MILLION!WOWSA.Thats' a 45.3% increase!DFW gained a horrendous
1.184Million and HOU has an honorary mention with 'only' 938,000+Newbies in a decade.Las Vegas..the Casino City on Steroids gained it's weight in gold growth:adding over 711,000 new-to-Clark Co.,NV. Over 1.1Million call the 'Metro Strip' home now.It doubled it's size...how fitting with '7-Eleven'Thousand!
Denver/Boulder exploded too:over 600,000 new Porsche owners swelling the Rocky Mtn Hi over 2.6Mill. Seattle was no Grunge RockStarbuck MicroSoftie.the Double Latte figure?2,600,000+ and 70+Story Hi-Rises with Mt Rainier in the background. Not bad for a 19th Century Loggin Port where it Rains on Sunny Days! Portland,Ore..Sister to Seatac to the South added 472,000 for a total of nearly 1.7Mill. Great MicroBreweries and Salmon has PDX hoppin! It is also one of MY alltime Favourite Cities!Love PDX!The 'Rose City'.'Mt Hood' in the Background of the Cascades..the 'American Mt Fuji' where we can ski in July and pick Lingenberries from the PermaFrost Glacier snowfields in May.
Now that I have bored you half to sleep...I leave you with one thought.
This is still our American Legacy...'Manifest Destiny'.This growth is unique in all the world..and testimony to our great wealth and sense of independence,Civic Pride and our 'Message' to the World..that we are truely the Greatest Nation the World has ever seen.
Be Proud, wherever you reside in our Nation! It is our Birthright.

I work in Baytown with a population of 71,000+ - I was born and raised in Highlands with a population of 7,000. I currently live in the country between Mont Belvieu and Baytown - so there really is no population figures for us. Needless to say I'm a country girl who doesn't like living in the city - never have and never will.

has about 38000 people living withing its boundaries which also includes The Post (often called Fort We Gotcha). Cochise County proper is now some 115k. I left the SFO Bay Area (where I was born) back in 1982 and vowed never to return as I hate big cities. I escaped from CA a year later and except for a few trips have never been back-in fact it has been 6 years since I was last there. After a stint at Dugway UT which is as small town out of the way as one can get, I moved here in 1986 and I can PROUDLY say that I have avoided Phoenix like the Plague having never spent any time there and only passed through on my way to Vegas which I do visit occasionally. Here growth is a major issue because of the National Treasure we have in the form of the San Pedro River one of the last free flowing rivers left in AZ and home to a vast array of species and one that is at great risk because of the unbridled growth here. SE AZ is a bird watcher's paradise which the greatest number of different species of birds to found anywhere in the US, the Ramsey Canyon Preserve has the highest number of different species of hummingbirds found at any one location in the US and the only species of Parrot indigenous to the lower 48 is found in the Chiricahua Mountain Sky Island. I could go on but suffice it to say that in the Summer, this area is also a Storm Chaser's paradise.

The estimated population of Lower Frederick County in PA (which is where I live) in 1996 was 4,287. My guess would be somewhere between 4,500 and 4,800 currently.

JCT, that's gotta be Lower Frederick Township, right? I've heard of it, I think. Philly vicinity?

the city of Williamsport has 30-some thousand and holding steady. All of Lycoming county (largest in the state in area) is only about 60,000 or so. Lotsa open space here and I like the zero growth part too. Not much sprawl going on here.

My town has a population of approx. 400 people. This would be more than halved if it weren't for the two trailer parks in town.
