Growing up a family sitcom that mirrored my own, didn't exist. Most mom's and dad's talked to eachother! Mine didn't. They went thru a fighting stage, my mom broke dishes, ranted, raved. My dad stomped off to his workshop. My mom would then light more candles to a statue of St. Anthony she kept in the kitchen. I'd run to my room, writing in my diary I wanted to run away! They separated when I was 17, my mom moved out, I stayed home with dad. And finally, finally had a normal period before I married at age 20.
So see, there just isn't a show like that! Don't worry about me, I weathered those days.....like that wx reference? LOL
All of my favorite TV shows growing up were family sitcoms or drama's - the Waltons, Eight Is Enough, My Three Sons, Brady Bunch, etc. It's fairly easy to see I wanted a happy home.
If I had to choose one show to exemplify our home today it would be the Walton's, in principal, minus 2 Grandparents, and 5 kids. But the care, concern, attention to one another and love most of all, is present in my home today. What I wanted growing up.
I should add that I wanted 8 kids when my own family was so messed up growing up. Somewhere along the line after having a second baby at age 35, my husband (second and last) and I said - two is plenty! And two it was....until we got a Golden Retriever. She's my third kid.
