mikey mike....I'm so very sorry my friend. I know exactly what you mean...since December 1977 when mom died, Christmas just hasn't seemed like Christmas to me :(

It's sad to read about some of our members having bad memories of the Christmas holidays. Unfortunately, it does seem like there's alot of people that do become ill and/or pass away during this time. My grandfather (father's dad) passed away on Christmas Day as well. He had been ill for a long, long time, but it still was quite upsetting when my father told us at Christmas dinner.

Stephanie, I've experienced it twice...and as sad as losing aunt Ruby was on Christmas day, it paled in comparism to the heartache of losing mom two weeks before Christmas.

In aunt Ruby's case, she was 80, and we had known for over four years she was dying....she was terminally ill, in the hospital seemingly every holiday. Her death was no shock to anyone...in fact, my aunt suffered so much, her passing was almost a relief...we knew she wasn't suffering any longer. :(

Mom's death was so totally unexpected and shocking....she was only 41 years old, and we lost her almost out of the blue...mom wasn't even sick; had went Christmas shopping just the day before. She was fine at bedtime, I was unable to wake her the next morning (Friday)...and she was gone the next weekend (mom lay unconscious on life support in ICU nine days before the cerebral aneurism complicated by pneumonia ended her life :(

So sorry to hear that, Perry! I, too, know alot
of folks who have bad memories at Christmastime.
An ex-boyfriend of mine lost his Dad, suddenly,
three days before Christmas, when he was around
nine years old. He's now in his mid-40's - and,
every year, he faithfully goes on a drinking bing
around Thanksgiving, and, doesn't let up until
around the end of January. He has never forgiven
God for taking his Dad away. His two boys know
that Daddy isn't very "available", around the
holidays - so, they have to steer clear so that he
doesn't spoil the magic for them.

But, Christmas is my favorite holiday. My mom,
two brothers, and their children don't exchange
presents, unless they're cooked or handmade!
We kids buy a country ham, and, all of the
ingredients, and, Mama's present to us is a big
home-cooked country breakfast (I DO get up
early and help her prepare it!). We eat and enjoy
each other's company. It's one of the few times
that the whole clan can get together!
