I am so sorry!! I wish there were somthing I could do or say to ease your pain.
Blackie is now in Cat Heaven. There is a childrens book by that name (Cynthia Rylant), it is very sweet.
My heart is breaking for you.
You WERE there for him, you loved him and searched for him and worried about him. They do hide to die, and it seems that is why he hid.

7 people and blackies brother attended his funeral. he was loving, friendly, and happy. as a kitten he was the timid one, and he always was partial to me.
i dont think he drank anti-freeze because there was nothing around his mouth at all. he looked like he would just get up and lick my face. i think he choked on something he ate. had i been there, i could have saved him.
its amazing, 5 people and 1 cat live here, and yet, i feel completely alone.
blackie loved me and i wasnt there for him.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Our office manager is fighting a battle with her cat Rerun to keep him going. At age three, he already has a heart condition.
Most important, don't blame yourself. Blackie knows of your love...and wouldn't blame you at all either.
Take care, and live in all the good memories Helen.

rainstorm, I am very sorry to hear about Blackie. I know it's really bad right now, but take comfort in knowing that you were able to find him and have some closure. My mom and dad's cat, Sonny disappeared a couple months ago and they never found him. They were going on a boat ride and he was on the porch. When they came back he was gone and never came back. To this day, they are still wondering what happened to him. I'll keep you and Blackie in my prayers. I truly am sorry.

Helen, I'm so sorry about Blackie.
I know how you feel about losing a pet and feeling like you weren't there when they needed you most. A few years ago, my cat Tiger died suddenly. One morning I went downstairs and he looked up at me and meowed like usual, but that day I was in a hurry and too busy to pet him or even acknowledge him. A minute later he jumped up on the couch and suddenly fell over gasping. As I frantically tried calling the vet's office (weekend of course), he stopped breathing. I was devastated. He was my baby and had brought me comfort during some tough times. I just wished I had petted him that one last time.
I had the vet do an autopsy, because he was not old and it was so sudden. He told us it was cardiomyopathy - his heart muscle was enlarged and thickened, and it's one of the most common causes of sudden death in young cats.
I'm wondering if the same thing happened to Blackie. Maybe he jumped up on the garage, and his heart gave out. If so, it's quick and he wouldn't have suffered long.
He knew you loved him. You made his life a happy one. Take care, Helen.

Helen: I'm sorry to hear about Blackie. RIP to him. I pray that the good lord takes care of him. It's sad to hear about that Helen. I hope and pray that you stay strong and I know you will. Hang in there and if you ever need to talk to anyone, just feel free here and will give you as much help and comfort as possible.
RIP Blackie

My condolences, Helen. I agree that finding his body was a good thing. Now you know that he didn't get lost or injured and suffer for days. You can give him a decent burial.
About 3 years ago, we had almost a whole litter of puppies die suddenly of parvo-virus. Nothing we could do. We buried them in the back yard.
We also had a little service for a hamster for my youngest boy, once when he was about 7. He said it well: "He was a good hamster." That allowed him to get the closure he needed and then go on.

What's Blackie's brother's name? You two need each other now. Do some extra bonding with him. Maybe when you think he's ready for another "brother", then you can adopt another one from teh SPCA.
thanks again everyone. his brother is named 'tan". i dont know why i cant get over this. all i can think about is the car rides blackie loved to go on with me, he would ride on the dash board. sat morning he was hiding under the couch and jumped out at me and was in a playful mood. i was there when they were born and blackie was so small and timid. tan and his sisters would not let him feed from mom, and i had to force him to get the milk. i gave the 2 females away. blackie had a special love for me, and i for him. we needed each other. he was so funny. he would go to sleep in a grocery bag in the kitchen. he loved his little home in the bag. i cant even go in the kitchen now.
i am very worried about tan. i think of blackie everytime i see him and i start crying again. i just cant believe he died, and why something so innocent has to die. all the kids put something on blackies grave and it is beautiful. i sat out there for an hour tonight, because i want to be close to him and i cant bear to leave him out there.
