During my junior high years and that was when I got my first NOAA-tone alert radio for those severe thunderstorms in Ohio! :o :)

Truth be known, I'm really "in here" for the food, ale and serving wenches.

We've got the best here!!!!

I don't exactly remember when or why, I just remember ordering a book on tornadoes and hurricanes while in elementary/middle school that contained information on the worst storms up to that time. I was always fascinated by thunderstorms and the snowstorms we would have on Long Island. There was one particular ice storm that I will never forget and I was about 9 or 10. It was like a winter wonderland but we did not have any power. Thankfully, we did have a fireplace and our power came on the next day.

I am pretty sure that the Feb, 6-7 Blizzard of 1978 was the event that truly got me hooked on weather. Close to two feet of snow fell during those 2 days and from then on, I was always looking for the next snowstorm.

I have always loved WEATHER for as long as I can remember..especially tropical cyclones...I just am in awe of the power and unpredictability of it. Thunderstorms and hurricanes are my favorite!!!! I love watching the sky darken as the storms approach!!

I grew up listening to "the weather". My Dad always watched
the evening weather on at least two of the three Nashville
stations, back then - he'd watch one, then switch the the
other, to compare forecasts and see who was the most
accurate! My Mom could explain every front moving in
from what direction, and, how it was gonna bump into
warm air, and where it was probably going from here,
and such. We had whirligigs, windmills, raingauges scattered
about the yard. I guess it just came natural to have an
interest in the weather, in our house!

What did it for me? ... Well, a combination of just about everything in my youth ranging from Hurricane David in 1979, Severe thunderstorms with the majestic beauty of lightning, hail, and yes, tornadoes. The President's Day Blizzard producing a massive icestorm in Charleston in 1979 (how about some areas picking up close to 2" of ice!), and the seemingly consistent cover the ground snowfalls of the late 70's/early 80's ... so, I kinda saw it all as a youth, and only in a couple of years!...Weather caught me hook, line, and sinker, and been addicted ever since.
