Dial-up is crap. I love high speed internet. It's like going from having 2 TV channels that are fuzzy to have 75 clear reception ones.

Tandy (Radio Shack) - back in the 80's with dual 8" floppy drives and a whopping 64 K memory ( had to operate with a boot disk).

I saved up enough money in high school to buy a state of the art Apple IIe. I still have it if anybody needs one.

My first computer was a Dell. I bought it at Sam's I remember I added 16 mb RAM that cost $97.00 at the time and that was at Sam's! It only had like 320 mg of hard drive, so I know that dates me big time. We had a local BBS that we called into and talked to folks around the area. That was when I was introduced to MIRc....the old DOS system.....then 2nd one was a POS that I bought from independent dealer in the area that soon went out of business after I bought it because my first one couldn't do the back stroke during Georges. Now I have a brand new (a year old) wonderful Dell, fully loaded and I love it!

I don't know about these KIDS who feel like they were slumming with 300 mhz machines.

When the 386's were coming out, I was given an IBM clone 8088 processor, probably about 0.5 mhz clock speed, NO ram, but dual 5 1/4" floppy drives, monochrome monitor, no mouse, and DOS - just DOS.

When the Pentiums were coming out, I was given a computer with a 386 processor, with Windows 95.

When the Pentium II's were coming out, I was given a 486-66 machine which I upgraded with a Pentium 90 overdrive processor, with Windows 95.

When the Pentium III's were coming out, I broke down and bought this computer, a second hand Gateway, AMD 500, Windows ME, which is still plugging away, but fairly zippy with a cable modem.

In the meantime I bought a second hand Dell Dimension P-II 350 for $10 at an auction at my work. It works fine for normal surfing, but slows down a lot if you open more than two browser windows.

I also bought a second hand machine from work with a Pentium II and Windows NT. It was a pretty good running computer, but it couldn't play the games my kids like, so I'm cannibalizing it for parts.

I never bought a new computer, or a new car, for that matter.

I love a gal who is comfortable in her geekiness! Now I have to ask... D&D?

Okay, that's not fair. Lots of it in college. Gave me a great excuse to dress up in what now is labeled as goth or renaissance stuff.

And I played it with my youngest son too when he was interested. "Magic" too.
