I can remember as a kid my Dad would eat all kinds of weird things. He was in the Navy in WWII. I think after that he learned to eat just about anything. Spam, he loved Spam sandwiches with mustard. Vienna sausage, oh yes. Sardines, Kipper Snacks and I forget many more. I used to like the Viena sausage and Kipper Snacks. I haven't eaten them in years but I bet if I was really hungry and had nothing to eat, they'd taste terrific!!!!

I downloaded a cookbook called "The Healthy Hurricane Cookbook". I can't find the link but I guess you may find it by doing a search with Yahoo or Google or something.

pretty tasty when you're hungry!

Well we were never on welfare and we always had vienna wieners in the house. I still can eat them every now and then, not like I did as a kid but I still get a hankering for them. My kids love them too. As far as spam goes I don't think I ever had any that I can remeber only because I heard it was nasty, so why go there. But hey it may be something I like. And I think what your mom meant was it was poor people food. A little bit of a prejudiced and ignorant comment on her part.

lol. my mom was european and spoke seven languages, but the nuances of English escaped her on more than one occasion. she was not one to be called prejudiced since she was a concentration camp survivor.
