It is either of two things--a bad hard drive (mentioned already), or corrupt system folder in Win 2K. If it is a corrupt folder, reformatting and reinstalling Windows is the only alternative.
That sounds like good and bad news. At least you were able to save all your files and transport them. Could have been worse, you could have lost everything. Glad you figured things out the best you could. Now you can get yourself a even better PC than before.
