The semi driver was NOT going too fast. He was driving a Crete company truck, and those trucks are set and satellite computer controlled to go NO faster than 63 MPH. The speed limit on that road is 60, so at best he was going 3MPH over the limit.
It seems that this driver was at fault, probably looking down at something, and not realizing that there was a stopped car/school bus in the road.
Why shouldn't the mother of these kids be brought up on negligance charges.... in the paper it stated that this 15 yr old NON-licensed driver picked all these kids up on a daily basis and everybody knew about it. It wasn't like this was an emergency incident, the kid drove illegally all the time. No, she didn't cause this accident, but statistically teenagers, especially unlicensed ones cause the majority of all accidents.
I am not on the driver's "side" in this accident. I own several semi trucks, I never allow anyone to drive them that has even ONE point on his/her license. One of my drivers has over 10 million miles without a moving violation or accident!! I blame the companies that hire these "shake and bake" drivers right out of school and put them behind the wheel, without any experience.
That is just my opinion.

I also heard the 20-month-old was not in a child safety seat as he should have been at that age. I don't think the underaged driver caused the wreck, but deaths could and should have been prevented if the mother had been responsible and not allowed her to leaving without an adult to pick up 7 kids.

You have GOT to be kidding me... bring the mother in on negligence charges because her non-licensed teen daughter got rear-ended while stopped behind a school bus? Get real -- this woman has just been through something that none of us could even fathom having to deal with...and you want to arrest her for something she had NO CONTROL OVER? yeah right. So what if the semi driver wasn't speeding- he still hit them at 50-60mph and we all can see what the results were. To blame this on anyone but the truck driver is pretty much the most ludicrous thing I've ever heard.
the vehicle got literally RUN OVER by the semi, meaning that no matter who was in it would have been killed instantly (whether it had been 7 children and an adult, or any other combination of people and age-groups). The only thing that would have altered the outcome for the better would've been an attentive driver at the wheel of the semi.

Because nothing can be gained by doing so, and nothing can be done to make her pay more for what has happened than she already has.
Exactly. Her own father (grandfather of the children) heard the news and died of a heart attack. What more grief could you possibly want to inflict on her?

I just read that 5 of those children were from the one family. I agree that even if the one daughter wasn't driving illegally (underage) and it was an adult instead the same thing would've happened.
It was the truck that hit them, not the other way around. Nothing would be gained by charging the parents, IMHO.

If an adult had been driving they probably wouldn't have been at the place at that time. Different routes taken, different speeds by different drivers...so to say that if the mother had been driving there would have been one more fatality is false. This is a tragic unfortunate accident and from what facts we have at this point is the driver is at fault BUT the mother is also guilty...to let her daughter drive illegally and to not have the baby in a car seat. I agree that nothing would be gained by charging the parents, they have to live with the guilt that they allowed their children to be in a car with an illegal driver when it was the parents responsiblity to get them from school, home and church.
