If we blame Justin, we send a message to other victims (yes, he is a victim in many ways) of those who exploit children -- we tell them to keep their mouths shut and not tell on the perpatrators.

Just because one victim is 13 and should be smart enough (if taught about such things at an early age) not to do those things, that doesn't mean the other victims are that old or smart.

Justin is doing is part to stop what happened to him from happening to others. You can't totally blame him -- he was, in fact, exploited.

GV, right on. Another way to look at too is he is the product of the environment around him. Even if he did want to do it, he wouldn't have wanted to in the first place if the people who were supposed to care for him like his parents weren't so abusive and exploitative.

His dad asked him where he was getting his money and when he told his dad his dad said "Let's figure out a way to maximize your profit potential". His own dad exploited him.

The people that he needed most let him down.

I dont think anyone is 'blaming" Justin. I think he has some culpability in the events.

there are several metaphors i can think of that would elucidate matters but none of them are suitable for audiences of all ages...

This is one of those stories where all parties involved share guilt.

Ditto you on that.

I've tried a couple of ways to explain my thoughts further, but it's such a heinous topic that it's hard to discuss certain aspects and angles of it without getting into PG-13 mode.
