Thanks. The yellow car is a 2002 Monte Carlo. The other - a 2009 concept Dodge Challenger. I'll have to give up the yellow one. Course, it's all a pipe dream anyway.

Will I downsize - no need to. I own a 98 Honda Civic and it has the smallest engine Civic's came with back then. I joke it's a glorified lawnmower (we own a Honda mower too). I have to turn the A/C off and drop it in third gear, just to get up steep hills. Ah, but it's good on gas mileage - 33 in the city and higher on highway (rarely drive interstates). Thru the years I've wished my car had more pickup since merging is a challenge and keeping up with fast interstate traffic but I manage. When I see a huge Hummer idling at a light I just want to smile-smile at that owner. But of course I don't......I should just yell out the window - cha ching, baby!

In a wordy way, I appreciate my small Civic now!

You will be paying a fortune in car insurance. Yikes..... and, I think it is higher out there. We just pay liability on our Storm, but when we get the new car, the party is over. It has been nice not having a car payment for 12 years or so.

Tell me about it...before we bought the Element a year and a half ago...I paid cash for every car I bought....including a brand new Jag back in 2000...I HATED having payments....now we have small payments, and I know its the way of the world, but I HATE IT! Your way, is definitely the smartest way!

Yeah, but you had fun with that Jag and I bet you got a great trade-in. My car is worthless.....

If we lived in the states where we traveled the US, etc. we would want a bigger car, but just living on an island, small cars are good.

One of these days your kids will be old enough to buy their own and get their own insurance. Just think how rich you and Brian will be when the kids leave the nest Kids cost a fortune.

I drive a 1996 Honda Civic. I bought it 2 and half years ago. My first car even though I had my drivers license since my senior year of high school. But, had the hardest time saving up for a decent down payment. I saved and saved. Until I had over $1500 in my saving account. I wanted a Honda Civic so bad. My dad found me one over the internet in the next town over which is 10 miles from here. I fell in love with the car the instant I saw it. It did not look like a 1996 at all. It looked brand new and only had 74, 000 miles on it. It is red, 2-door with a sunroof. They wanted $7800 for it. My dad talked the hot salesguy down to $6600. I put up a $1000 of my own money. My parents gave me about $2000 of their own money, plus paid my first 6 months of insurance. Wow, that was nice of them! They did a credit check and my credit was excellent. So, I got my notes down to only $136 a month. I never been late for a payment and the car will be paid off in 8 months or less. I only owe $1,060. I still love my car. It drives great, never had an ounce of trouble with it. The air conditoning went out last summer and have not had the money to get it worked on. But, that is just a minor inconvience. I just ride with the windows down and the sunroof down. It is great on gas mileage. I only spent $22 to fill my tank yesterday. And my gas will usually last 2 weeks. I limit my trips and mostly only go back and forth to work or to run an errand. I don't know what I will get for my next car. I am just hoping this car lasts for a while. It is 10 years old now and I still only put 90,000 miles on it. I let my aunt drive it all the way to Destin, Florida last summer when we went on vacation together. The air was putting out ice cold when we went to Florida and it gave out a month later. Probably just needs freeon. And it drove wonderful. Hondas can last a very long time and I hope mine does too.

Sounds like you got a good car. We will probably get a car like that when we get our next one which will be soon. We will get one that is about a year old.
