 Anytime I hear anybody complain about their dire finances, I ask if they smoke. If they say yes, I don't feel the least bit sorry for them. Of course, if you have the money to smoke and don't care about killing yourself, I say go nuts.

If you have been a smoker for a very long time...well, sometimes I think it would have been easier to give up gasoline than cigarettes.

$26.00 a carton? That is... I don't know!

Here, a carton ranges from $40-$75 even $80!

You guys almost got it good, you can buy 3-4 packs for the price I pay for one.

we got a new law passed here in MN for something like a 50 cent or 75 cent cigarette fee, so now packs of Marl. Reds, Marl. 72 and 100 menthols, and Kools menthols are around $5 a pack.

Same here... was doing fine... then BAM! Had to go back to the cigs; but sincerely hope to quit again this summer if we JUST can avoid another catastrophe.

I get regular mails from Doral...(yeah I know a cheapie) but it satisfies the need for now... and with the coupons and by buying a carton, I wind up spending about $2.20 a pack. Still want to save that money tho'.

One day.. hopefully soon!

Me too  I started two weeks ago, but I am only smoking a pack every two day. John has not started back, he won't. I have been so depressed the past two weeks worrying about Johns enlarged heart and getting this house done, too much on my nerves. I had been taking xanax daily. John asked me if I thought I should start back till we move, I said yes. It has helped a lot. I am smoking Doral too at $3 a pack. Our Marlboros here are $4. I think they taste the same.

I find the dorals burn alot quicker than the name brands, but I don't mind the taste of them either. But I am thanful I get 4 bucks off a carton coupons so that equals out to about 2 bucks a pack for the Winstons I smoke.

I find that many feel they have the right to make comments of a personal nature when I purchase cigarettes. My parents taught me to be polite and I usually don't reply which makes them extemely nervous. The day before my papa died an older man and his wife were behind me in line and he made a comment (from my look his wife told him to be quiet) but he kept on. Believe me after the answer I gave him and in the tone I gave it, he will never ever question another person about their purchase of anything.

What is working for me is, I am only smoking a third at a time. I take three puffs then leave. That is enough for me. I try to do this once each hour. So, one cigarette lasts me three hours. I am fine with this.

Marlboro Lights or Merit Ultra Lights.

Cartons are about $54. We have a $2.40 tax per PACK here in NJ.

gtalum & Regit - I'm sure that there's alot of people that don't smoke that waste their money on things that others wouldn't consider a "necessity". MYOB.

I quit smoking on April 24th, or about six weeks ago. I've already saved $300, or enough money for a trip to New Orleans. :D

Congratulations! :D

It's getting to the point of wanting to throw a "Boston Tea Party".

OF COURSE (sarcasm intended) it was to help prevent people from smoking - it more of a way to help NJ balance their budget.

I did not have a hard time quitting before, so after we sell this house, I will quit again. I am not worried about it.

SUSHI!!!

I'm glad I don't smoke...never did. But Kentucky is poor enough. You really want to take away from one of the state's main sources of income?

I was talking about people who are exceptionally poor and would otherwise have money if they didn't smoke. And as for any other people who are in the same state and waste money on other things, that's just as foolish. Don't take everything so personally.
