If im correct sciatica is more of a symptom than an ailment by itself. Many times a disc will impinge or press against a nerve causing the shooting pains. Best thing aside from the above posted drug remedies is to be extremely careful while running and jumping; this seems to make it worse (at least it does for me). If sciatica is persistant and severe your doctor want to do an MRI then go from there.

Chad, you need to see a neurologist, who can confirm sciatica with a nerve
conduction study. There are medications that can help relieve the symptoms
once the diagnosis is made.

OH NO... You DON"T want to have a "nerve study" done. It is one of the MOST painful tests you will have have done!!!! My husband (at the time) had it done, and walked out in the middle of it because it hurt so bad. He had broken his wrist, and damaged nerves in his shoulder. You get hooked up to a charger, and they shock the hell out of you.... and "test" your response.

Before my back surgery I had a nerve conduction study, and a mylogram (dye spinal injection test).. that was fun.

I have it too Chad. Sitting at the puter makes it worse. I take anti inflammatory meds. Motrin helps and so does Advil, plus I do stretches too. That helps. It comes and goes. It could be worse I guess. Hope you feel better. 8-) I agree with David the Chiropractor seemed to do more harm than good for me.

I do nerve tests, day in and day out in a neurologist's office. No one has
died. You never see or smell smoke. When the machine acts up, guess
who the test patient is? Me. I'm not glowing, yet.

I just had an MRI last week for mine AND something really cool.....I had "Thermo imaging" done...it shows EXACTLY where the pain is radiating from, where it goes. The T.I. also showed the nerve root damage done....the ONLY bad part about this procedure? Sitting in a "cooling room"...55°, bare butt naked until your core temp drops to a certain °....talk about COLD :cold:
