I finally got to see, and hear PFC Lynch's press statement on early morning CBS; I detected a very slight slurriness in her speech (perhaps from pain medications), which temporarily faded when she addressed her affection and sadness for the loss of her friend, PFC Lori Piestewa.

She was clearly happy to be home, taken somewhat at a loss as to her "celebrity" here, and grateful for all the well-wishes, especially those from children.

That having been said, I doubt seriously that she should be subjected to any "made-for-TV" movie this fall, or at any time in the near future...this little lady has a lot of pain and suffering behind her, more to come as she engages in rehabilitation, and doesn't need any further exposure, IMHO.

I noticed the slurring too. But all in all it was great speech, especially when she mentioned Lori. IMO she looked great!!

Why Jessica Lynch is a hero...

#31 Postby JetMaxx » Fri Jul 25, 2003 1:09 pm

Number one, she wants to be a teacher....desired a college degree so badly that she risked her life...and almost lost it in the attempt to achieve her goals.

Just the fact Jessi enlisted and served her country proudly in the U.S. military makes her a hero to me, and to most Americans. The fact she served in wartime makes her more of a hero.

Pfc Jessi Lynch was critically wounded and taken prisoner of war in the line of duty, in the service of her nation. She is among the greatest of American heroes....those brave young women and men that sacrifice everything for their country. They are the reason we are free.

Why all the "hoopla" over her? Why not Lake Effect1?? Jessica survived hell on earth as an Iraqi prisoner; saw her friends die...was tortured and half starved....and spent four months in a hospital suffering from a broken back, severely broken legs, and numerous other serious injuries. Her hair is still short in front...why? Doctors were forced to shave that portion of her head to treat a severe head injury.

Jessica deserves every award, accolade, and all the hoopla she recieves and more....just as ALL former POW's do when they return to America. Anyone that doesn't agree is either clueless or has another agenda...anti-war or anti-Bush.

I don't see that Jessica recieved any more hoopla than the other former POW's when they returned home. Ronald Young Jr's return was HUGE...among the biggest stories years in metro Atlanta. Ron has been given all types of awards, gifts, and "hoopla" since his return. He's met and ate breakfast with President Bush, appeared on David Letterman, 60 Minutes with Dan Rather, and was recently named one of the "25 most eligible bachelors in America"....with a huge spread in People magazine.

Ron was the special guest of the Country Music Awards (as was Pfc Patrick Miller and Shoshana Johnson)....he got to meet and mingle with all the superstars of country music. He sat with Travis Tritt. Ron also was honorary captain of the Texas Rangers...sat with the team in their dugout, and met Juan Gonzales at home plate to congratulate him after hitting his 500th homerun.

To my knowledge (and I live here in Ron's hometown, and am friends with his mom and dad)...Ron has recieved two free trips to a huge resort in Gulf Shores, Alabama....as well as free trips to New York City...Philadelphia...Las Vegas...Hattiesburg, MS...Dallas, Texas; and we gave him the biggest celebration in Douglas County, Georgia history on May 9th (he recieved the key to the city and two U.S. flags that flew over the White House and U.S. Capitol in his honor).

Oh yeah...Ron also was the grand marshall of the largest 4th of July Parade in America...the Salute to America parade here in Atlanta.
He's been interviewed by numerous magazines and papers, even now he's preparing to write a book (why I believe he's leaving the army...to take advantage of his fame before it's gone). I also hear rumors he's being offered commercial endorsements...you may soon see American hero Ron Young Jr in a commercial for Aquafresh or McDonalds...

That sounds like a lot of hoopla...and well deserved hoopla.
I believe Jessica Lynch deserves AT LEAST as much hoopla as Ron Young Jr...after all, he was a POW -- but he's healthy. Jessi may never walk again, at least without aid of a walker or cane :(

Here's a flash for the uninformed...what Jessica wants is to be left the heck alone. WHY she went home to Wirt County, West Virginia...to GET AWAY from the hoopla and gawkers...AWAY from the press and media hawks. She reluctantly did a press conference last Monday when she arrived home from D.C....and was in pain the entire time.

All Jessi Lynch wants now is to heal as best she can, get herself into college, earn her degree in elementary education....and get on with her life. She didn't ask for this...all this hype and hoopla. It's all been thrust upon her as she lay severely injured in the hospital....all beyond her control.

She is a hero....and always will be! :)

Whoa there cowboy, I don't think that anyone's opinion was directed towards you or your thoughts. But if you are going to take anyone else's opinion that personally, then maybe a hiatus is in order my friend.

My personal opinion is that all service men and women serving abroad in the gulf area are heros in their own respect. Not all of them get the recognition that they deserve. If this were a male soldier, do you think that the media would be giving it all this hype? I do not believe that it would.

God Bless the USA, and Godspeed to Jessica and all the other soldiers out there, from a veteran

I am sorry you took my own opinion to heart Perry, I was not directing it at you. I just felt that because she is a woman , that our govt, was making it a big deal. Any person that has ever served our country deserves respect. I come from a family of marines!!! 8-) 8-)

I am sure that I would give it as much attention also, "If I would know about it"...that is my point, most people would never have heard about it due to the media, had it been a male soldier

Anybody and that means anybody who does not believe this woman deserves a heroes welcome is a lost cause. She has earned it.

Perry, you do not have to apologize for anything nor to anybody. All your friends here at storm2k know about your concerns and what you are going through. NUFF SAID!!

Oh and I would too Chad!!
