I wouldn't of known if there was a problem even if I (still) had AOL... I wasn't online this morning. It will already be eight months since I've been using my high speed internet (cable modem).

Was this an AIM problem, too?

Yes, it was everything but I am up and running now.
I am switching to cable modem , too. Waiting for them to call and schedule it. And I can't wait.

I have AOL and haven't had any problems. Now those of you who are mad at AOL consider this...when this board went down did you consider leaving?...when your cable goes out at home do you consider getting a satellite dish?...when your electricity goes out do you consider going to solar power?...c'mon things happen but it's not the end of the world. It could have been something beyond their control...life's too short to get upset because you couldn't get on the internet for a short while. Smile....it'll all be better!!!

Everybody is saying AOL when in reality it is AOHELL!! I ridded myself of that dinasour two years ago. Bonnie... you will LOVE the cable modem and it's speed. You will never ever go back to 56K EVER. It may be more expensive but well worth the money.

I had AOL back in the 56k phone line modem, and I answered an e-mail from then concerning DSL. It was a questionaire or something..I don't really remeber. A couple of days later, arrivingf in the mail is the high speed modem and starter package for DSL!

Typical AOL....I cancelled immediately and never looked back

Another trick of theirs....getting you to sign up another screen name by clicking on a little sneeky box....that kids don't pay any attention to what their doing. Then they bill you extra.

Good points j... and another thing about AOHELL... they will continue to charge your credit card even if you cancelled their services. Like recently, I have not had AOHELL for 2 years now and they billed my credit card 99 bucks for a DSL Modem that I received 2 years ago and had sent back. I could understand the error BUT TWO YEARS LATER!! C'mon. The bank reversed the charges and sent them a little letter. I am sure I am not the only one this has happened to.

Well we can't just up and do without power, cable and all the things you mentioned. But there are MANY choices of internet providers and we have the right to switch if they are no good. If I had more choices on my cable provider or electricity provider, you bet I would shop around for something better.

oh yeah..I forgot to mention...they hit my credit card for the modem too. I had them send me a confirmation letter stating that they were issuing a credit..but it took a lot of threatening.

I wish I could get cable modem, but since my parents pay for internet, it's just a lose-lose situation for me. :(

We (I) didn't have any problems with AOL Billing when we disconnected our service in November.

The highest I was able to sign on to with dial-up was aroune 24.4 bps. Aside from that the only more annoying/serious issue were the disconnection and the need for call waiting be set for my connection to knock me offline when the phone rang for long distance phone calls from family in Massachusetts.

My mother (parents) are directly paying for our internet access. I am paying a certain percentage of the cable bill and other things.

I am online much more than my mother and my father doesn't know the first thing about computers/the internet.
