The chorus from Wind Beneath My Wings sung by Bette Midler at the Meomorial service-
CHORUS:
Did you ever know that you're my hero,
and ev'rything I would like to be?
I can fly higher than an eagle,
'cause you are the wind beneath my wings.
It might have appeared to go unnoticed,
but I've got it all here in my heart.
I want you to know I know the truth, of course I know it,
I would be nothing with out you.
(CHORUS)
Fly, fly, fly away,
you let me fly so high.
Oh, fly, fly,
so high against the sky, so high I almost touch the sky.
Thank you, thank you, thank God for you,
the wind beneath my wings.

Re: September 11, 2001
I can remember the first hours very well, but I have literally no memory of later that day and that night, or the 12th and 13th. I do remember the 14th however. That was the national memorial day and I really think it hit that day. It was just so sad. I do also remember though how in those early days the death toll was thought to have been MUCH worse than it turned out to be. They had thought 800 people had died at the Pentagon, and the first missing estimates at the WTC were nearly 7,000. That first day it was feared to be in the tens of thousands.

I'm not American, but:
O say, can you see, by the dawn’s early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight
O’er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets’ red glare, the bombs bursting in air
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there;
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

O say, can you see, by the dawn’s early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight
O’er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?

I remember it so well, seeing the second tower being hit live, the burning for days and days, the twin beams from ground zero that could be seen at night. This is a beautiful tribute with some pictures I don't remember having seen before.

I was planning on it, but there are just sooo many who died in the WTC Collapse and Pentagon. I got the planes in, maybe next year I'll start earlier, if you look at the CNN page, the WTC victims take up at least 14 pages (I didnt go beyond that though, so). God bless him and his family.

this video from youtube is actual raw video taken that day. Please be warned that there are a few curse words used. It gives you a little since of being an onlooker near the scene and trying to get away.
The first 40 seconds are nothing but darknees with a bright light in the center. Just wait and then it actually starts.

We must never forget those who were lost. And the many heroes who risked their own lives to save others.

Thank you for starting this thread. I'm a day late...of course!
God Bless all of those that we had lost or were injured on that horrific day. I can't believe it's been 6 years already.
I'm saying a prayer as well for the rescue/recovery workers that are now ill and/or have died from working there due to the dust and other debris in the atmosphere.
