"Lowe's evidently did not want to offend any non-Christians; therefore, they replaced 'Christmas tree' with 'family tree,'" the AFA e-mail said. "Of course, if Christians are offended, that is evidently OK."

I laughed when I read that. Best quote I've read in quite a while.

That and some Genealogy Family Tree sites could've sued them for using the words "family trees".

I'm glad that situation got cleared up.

Of course, Christians offended by them not calling them Christmas trees are being just as silly as those offended when they do call them Christmas trees. Irony is funny. :D

How 'bout we call them atheist trees? Then they can be universally hated (though I myself am an atheist...)!

Why don't we just call them what they really are?

Pagan Winter Solstice Celebration Trees

I never understood why the Christians get their panties in such a wad over a pagan symbol anyway.

Christmas trees.

They should be called Christmas trees. If you don't celebrate Christmas, are you going to buy a Christmas tree? Unlikey. I respect every religion (or lack of) and every Winter holiday. But Christmas trees are directly related to Christmas and nothing else.

I don't see why it's so hard to call them what they've been called forever.

As noted, they haven't been called Christmas Trees "forever". I suggest you read up on some history before making such comments. :)

Until the late 19th century, they were used in pagan rituals to celebrate the winter solstice.

A Festivus for the rest of us! There's no tree involved, just a pole. It requires no decoration.

Hmm, you're right. They were used before Christianity.

Heh...

Oh, well. I'm calling them Christmas trees. Call them whatever you want, I guess. Just not family trees.

They've been called Christmas trees all my life.... all my parent's life... all my grandparent's life. Everyone was happy and nobody complained. Then comes all the politically correct hogwash... winter break... family tree... oh dear, a candy cane with a scripture... the horror.

They'll always be called Christmas trees in my family and anyone is free to call them whatever else they want, no matter how silly they look. 8-)

*Karan checks panties to see if they are in a wad****

Nope, no wad in my panties and I'm almost positive that quite a few people have no wads or bulges of any kind. Now I'm absolutely sure that Lowes has no balls in their pants. I'm 62 years old and love my traditions and memories. I don't like anyone to screw with them. (at my age you never know how long I'll remember them. LOL)

Lowes will get no more of my business. (I own my home and do most of my repairs) Their loss.

That's okay. I just switched to Lowe's from Home Depot, but for different reasons. :D

It makes no sense to me when these large companies like Lowe's try to cater to the extreme PC crowd instead of the everyday average joe taxpayer. We are the much larger crowd, not the PC bunch. From what I remember, I've NEVER heard anyone I know tell me they are decorating their "family tree" or that the kids are out of school for the "winter break" or have I ever heard a Santa say "ha ha ha".

Lowe's is screwed either way; someone would've seen to it that this be done. PC is just part of life nowadays. However, it's very convenient that we have these online forums to complain about it. Yes, very much so indeed. :D

Exactly, HollynLA. It's ridiculous.
