Very true Coredesat. I would have never expected Heath Ledger to end up this way - very sad and that is why it is such a shock. Other celebs are out of control, on a daily basis sometimes. But he didn't fit that profile and lived his life in a quiet way. You wouldn't be surprised to read a headline like this, from someone like Britney Spears or Lindsay Lohan. Not H. Ledger though.

The whole thing is so sad, especially when it seems as though it was accidental. Many people think Rx and OTC meds are safe but sometimes they're not. They're lethal.

The autopsy results show accidental overdose of prescription drugs. The combination of several prescription drugs (anti-anxiety, sleep aid, and pain killer) proved lethal for Heath.


In a statement released through Ledger's publicist, the actor's father, Kim, said Wednesday: "While no medications were taken in excess, we learned today the combination of doctor-prescribed drugs proved lethal for our boy. Heath's accidental death serves as a caution to the hidden dangers of combining prescription medication, even at low dosage."

Oh this is even more heartbreaking. Makes you cry all over again. RIP Heath. Don't you wish you could turn back the clock in this case? I especially admired the class his ex-fiance displayed when she gave her statement, she spoke so highly of Heath and how their daughter will be raised with the best memories of him.

It wasn't an overdose. It was a combination of medication that happened to be lethal, which is definitely accidental.

Yeah right. Imagine seeing a doctor that prescribes two narcotics (one of which is very strong), three separate benzodiazepines and then tops off the pharmaceutical cocktail with a sleep med. All six meds were found in his body. They all must have accidentally fallen into his mouth.

There isn't a doctor out there that would intentionally give a patient this regimen of medications.

I heard the prescriptions came from 6 different doctors (3 of which were European). It is quite easy to accidental overdose if (under influence of another drug) you misjudge the dosage, take the wrong prescription at the wrong time or self-medicate.

I think I said "or self medicate". I meant by self-medication, where the presciptiion says take one when symptoms occur (not "take every 6 hrs). Because of impaired judgement caused by the various prescriptions, ill health, etc., Heath Ledger could have forgotten at time certain medication was taken, could have forgotten the dosage taken or forgotten whether or not he took something. Some those medications can mess with your mind. I wasn't in Ledger's head (nor were you), so I don't know what was going on in it at the time.

Your right the benzodiazepines have a tendency to mess with memory.....especially when your taking three different types. I took xanax for awhile after Katrina....it certainly made me forget some things.

Well, it may not have been a suicide attempt, but any reasonable person ingesting that variety of drugs would have to know they were taking a serious risk.


Sort of OT, from what I understand, it is nearly impossible to commit suicide/fatally OD on Valium. You can eat 20 or 30, and just be really, really, groggy. But add something else, a sleeping pill, or 3 or 4 stiff cocktails, and you may never wake up.

Yep. Everyone knows that if you take a couple of pills you could die. I fear sometimes taking just two Advil.

Are you on dope? There is no theory. The poor guy took to many of the right kind of pills and it killed him. This thread is about overdose and resulting death. How can you call his death a "generalization"? It is a wake up call. People overdose and die everyday from doctor prescribed meds. Just because doctors prescribe meds to make you feel better doesn't make the medication safe. You need to take a course in basic pharmacology.
