New "LOST" thread
Moderator: S2k Moderators
As we get closer I'll get into it. The reruns sure hooked us. And the CDrom in last week's TV Guide magazine, sure gets you psyched!
Read a good article on hints for Season 2, in the magazine called Entertainment Weekly. Suddenly we're getting it for free....which is odd. But there's a big section on Lost, with pullout poster, of the plane, who sat where, what their past is, what their story is now, hints for this season. Check it out if you want.

PS - found the articles.....

I just finished watching the DVD set with my wife. All I can say is I'm hooked on this show.
Anyway, I looked up the show on Wikipedia and found this.
Not only have these numbers affected Hurley, but everyone else too.
Anyway, I looked up the show on Wikipedia and found this.
In the episode "Numbers", the numbers 4, 8, 15, 16, 23 and 42, are revealed to be significant. This string of numbers was broadcast from the island's radio transmitter as far back as World War II, and it was this message that drew Rousseau's expedition to the island. Though she later changed the message after the deaths of her team, the numbers had also been heard by others, eventually making their way to Hurley, who used them to win the lottery. However, after his win, a series of misfortunes begin to happen to those around Hurley, leading him to believe the numbers are cursed. His search for answers leads him to Australia and, through the crash, to the original source of the numbers, the island itself, where he ultimately discovers the numbers engraved on the hatch. Instances of the numbers in the character's lives come up frequently, with some of the most significant being:
The survivors were all passengers of Flight 815.
Flight 815 boarded at gate 23.
There were 42 rows on the plane. Jack was seated in row 23, Ana Lucia in row 42.
In "The Greater Good", Sayid walks out of a building with the number 815 on the door before he gets picked up for the suicide bombing mission.
In "Homecoming", Charlie sales pitch is for the model C815 copier.
In "Tabula Rasa", the reward for capturing Kate is A$23000. She later tells Hurley this when she overhears him reciting the numbers.
In "Born to Run", Kate and Tom recorded their time capsule tape on August 15, 1989.
In "Deus Ex Machina", Locke works in a toy store, and when a customer asks where the footballs are, he replies they are on aisles 8 and 15.
In "Exodus, Part 3", Hurley's flashback to the day of the flight is full of instances of the numbers. His hotel room in Sydney was Room 2342. While driving to the airport his speed is intially 42 kilometers per hour, and the external temperature is 23°C. When he gets a flat tire, his speed drops 16, then 15, then 8 and finally 4 kph. As he is running to his gate, he runs past a sign showing the directions to gates 23-42, and also past a team of soccer players wearing jerseys with the numbers in numerical order. Finally, Hurley offers an elderly man A$1600 to use his motorized wheelchair to get to the gate.
Not only have these numbers affected Hurley, but everyone else too.

We're addicted to this show too!
I missed the show when it first started, by December I knew I wanted to watch it. But I got so confused. Started and stopped a few times. When I heard ABC would air the show in reruns over the summer, my daughter Laura and I watched, faithfully. Then we discovered, the network would be skipping many episodes, to fit in before the season premiere. Grrrrr..... at least I got to see Claire's baby being born...and sadly Boone take his last breath.
And now for a major spoiler............

Dang! The new season sneaked right up on me. Glad I found this thread or may of missed this Wednesday. But I really wanted to see the last show or 2 from last season to refresh my memory. Oh well I'm sure it will kick in after the new episode. WOO HOO!! I'm stoked! Glad Wednesdays are Nana day for my kids. My mother in law gets them from school and then dumps them off around 7:45. So no homework or dinner for me. Yippy!

NOTHING SIMPLE HERE: Katey Sagal is the latest "name" tapped to guest-star on ABC's Lost. The former 8 Simple Rules mom will play a woman named Helen in the new season's third episode, airing Oct. 5 and also featuring another appearance by Locke's father (played by Kevin Tighe). By the way, "8" is one of Hurley's numbers. Just sayin'.

Ellen - since I'm missing a few episodes b/c ABC decided to skip them this summer, maybe you could give me a short synopsis of key characters.
I think I understand Sawyer. And Jack.
But Kate I'm confused on. I missed the episode where they might have showed a bank robbery. And how she accidentally shot her boyfriend? Something like that.....so if you can, just a sentence or two about her.
I have enough background info on Charlie,Hurley (gotta love that lug), the Korean couple, Walt and his dad.
But Locke I'm missing pieces to the puzzle too! They skipped the episode of flashbacks to a kidney transplant.
So if you could, background info on Kate and Locke would be very helpful. Or if you think I missed something along the way, fill me in. If it's something I already know, I don't mind reading it twice.
Thanks!

To quote Hurley, "Dude!". I am so hooked on this show. I watched the pilot but then was too busy to watch the rest of the season. I loved it so much though that I bought Season One on DVD when it came out. I just finished watching it all a few minutes ago and I am hooked!! I waited until I finished watching to read this thread and comment.
Kate's story still isn't finished that I can tell. Why did her mother yell help when Kate went to visit her at the hospital?
Charlie took some of the heroin from the plane, too. I am surprised no one mentioned that!
I was hoping that his determination to save Aaron would overcome his need for a fix since he has been clean for quite some time.
Let me just also say kudos for giving Hurley a storyline much deeper than just the comic relief. By golly, it is about time that someone show that a fat guy can do more than just be funny!
Sun has to be my favorite character. I love the complexity of her storyline with Chin. I find it to be very believable and quite compelling.
Does anyone know what happened to the African-American lady that was on in the first few episodes?? I liked her, too, but she just kind of disappeared.
Bring on tomorrow night!!! I am ready.

I asked a fan about Rose too (the older African-American woman who had lost her husband). She seems to have disappeared into the background. But she's alive and I read somewhere, please don't ask me where though, that she was convinced her husband survived the crash, b/c he went to the restroom at the rear of the plane. And they (survivors) haven't found the tail section yet. The new female character to be added this year will be the young woman Jack shared a drink with at the airport bar. She was seated in the tail section. So my guess is they'll explain she survived and so did others. One might be Rose's husband (again, I swear I read this in an article awhile back), so don't be surprised if he turns up.
I just love it when Hurley says "Dude!"........I crack up each and every time.
I noticed Charlie put more heroin in his pocket and I'm hoping he keeps it not to tempt him, but to show how far he's come and won't go back to that former life. He kicked this habit w/o more drugs - the hard way! Why would he go back to taking it again and then run out someday? That would be crazy! Claire needs him.....
Question - when Claire told Charlie she names the baby Aaron, Charlie's facial expression was surprise but then he was so happy. Was this his brother's name?
I'm so excited too and I keep reading even more articles, from TV Guide critics to AP ones. All say they'd better show us what's in the hatch!
I do know we won't know the fate of those on the raft in tonight's show. We have to wait until next week to find out what happens to Jin, Michael and Sawyer. Have no idea when we find out Walt's fate......can't get over the fact they took the boy yet. What a major shock.

Well Walt's picture is no longer on the official LOST website so that tells me that we may not know for a long time.

An interview with Harold Perrineau who plays Lost dad/character Michael:

Will Lost's Michael Sink or Swim?
by Angel Cohn
When last we saw Harold Perrineau's character on Lost, Michael was clinging to a raft in the ocean and his young son, Walt, had just been kidnapped by "the Others." TVGuide.com, having talked to Perrineau last season before the raft left shore, decided to check in with the 37-year-old actor to make sure things were going swimmingly. Turns out they are — mostly — except for the fact that he has a pretty strong aversion to water.
TVGuide.com: Hi, how are you?
Harold Perrineau: Can you hold on a second? [Puts us on hold for a minute] Sorry, I was just talking to Josh Holloway, TV Guide's favorite person.
TVGuide.com: Well, he is kind of cute, sorry...
Perrineau: Don't be sorry, I'm glad he's cute. [Laughs]
TVGuide.com: You're not too shabby yourself!
Perrineau: Actually, it's a good thing. Cute people don't bother me.
TVGuide.com: Now that your character is separated from the rest of the cast, are you filming at different times?
Perrineau: We are. It's almost like a different show right now. We're not with the people we were with originally, and we have new cast members and we're working a lot with them, so it's like a different show. Two days ago was the first time we had a little party where we were all there together. I was like, "Wow, I haven't seen you in forever."
TVGuide.com: The last time I spoke with you, your story line was all fun, but now you're stuck in the water, which I hear is not your favorite place to be!
Perrineau: Not my favorite place to be. We've got reshoots going on now and that's not going to be any fun, either, but you gotta get it done.
TVGuide.com: So are the rumors that you can't swim true?
Perrineau: Here's the deal: At the beginning of last year, I was not a strong swimmer. I took a bunch of lessons. I'm no Greg Louganis or anything like that, but I can swim. I kept myself afloat by treading water — and that was a big deal!
TVGuide.com: I have visions of them cutting away from a scene and then having to carry you out of the water.
Perrineau: [Laughs] No, that was last year! "Quick, get him out! Get him out!" They gave me a call this summer and told me we were starting right back [filming] in the water and to take some swimming lessons. They told me it was for my own security, so I get to act and not just be panicked. I took the advice.
TVGuide.com: What else did you do over your summer vacation?
Perrineau: I actually did a lot of physical training, because I thought this year would be a big, emotional year. Like the fans, I have to try to figure out what's coming next. I knew that we were on the raft, I knew that Walt was gone and I knew that I'd have to go and get him. I just imagined it was not going to be an easy thing, if I pay attention to how the show is going. So I went to this facility in Los Angeles where they train professional athletes, because I wanted to make sure my endurance was up. Even if there wasn't a lot of physical work, just being that emotionally frayed would kind of take its toll.
TVGuide.com: So you're big and buff now?
Perrineau: [Laughs] No, no... I just did biceps curls and stuff, so that my movement and ability to use my energy becomes more efficient. Now if we have a scene where I have to run, I can do that and not get too winded. A lot of the training was cardiovascular stuff and compound movements, so you train all the muscles in your body.
TVGuide.com: Do you think you will be waterlogged all season long?
Perrineau: I'm hoping not! It's not a lot of fun. The filming is always at night, and we've got a bunch of guys out there, guys banging to make sure no sharks come by. We're not in some tank; we're in the ocean.
TVGuide.com: That's some pretty big incentive to get you to learn how to swim.
Perrineau: Not that it really helps, but it's some incentive — at least you've got a shot. We have an excellent team of technical people and they're taking good care of us. We're working really hard out there. It's tough.
TVGuide.com: On Lost, you never know what can happen. Do you worry that they'll off your character?
Perrineau: Not anymore. The first season was really setting up what's going on and what's going to happen. Somewhere in the middle of the season, it occurred to me that it's no different than my life outside the show, as an actor — you get a job one day, you don't get a job another day. You're in New York City drinking at some bar, the next day you're in Bucharest doing a film. Anything can happen at any time, and that's how my actor life is always, so it doesn't make me nervous on this show. As long as I don't settle in and expect that I'll always be here. It's not like a sitcom.
TVGuide.com: It's just that there are so many rumors floating around, and fans get panicked about their favorites.
Perrineau: The only thing I can do is not be too panicked about it and just do my job. Getting too panicked about it doesn't afford me the ability to just do my gig.
TVGuide.com: Were you excited when you got the season finale script last year and saw what would be happening to Michael and Walt?
Perrineau: Well, I thought a couple of things. I thought this could be a good thing to deal with and it could be fun and dramatic. The other part of me wondered what it meant for Harold and Malcolm David Kelly [the young actor who plays Walt]. Is Malcolm going to be there? Am I going to be there? As excited as I was to do that stuff then, I knew it was going to [bring about] a change in our relationship. Either we weren't going to be together for a while [on the raft], or one of us wasn't going to come back.
TVGuide.com: You seemed like you had so much fun with Malcolm last season....
Perrineau: We did! We had a lot of fun last season.
TVGuide.com: Now he's with all those... scary people...
Perrineau: Hopefully he'll have as much fun with them. Maybe he'll go to their house.
TVGuide.com: Right, maybe the Others have a whole game room inside the hatch or something. Now I know you can't spoil anything — since they don't tell you anything — but do you think this season's going to live up to last?
Perrineau: I certainly hope so! [Laughs] That's my best hope, that it actually does. We're all trying to do the best we can, so we'll see how it goes.

Mary-
Sorry i didn't get back to you sooner!
Yeah, the Locke thing I don't quite have a "lock" on yet.
I'll probably get cyber tomatoes thrown at me for that! They haven't gone into much detail about him.
Anyhow, from what I can remember, Kate was involved in bank heists for a living and her boyfriend was a partner in crime. One of her partners shot a person which she disagreed with. Her and her boyfriend got into a car to escape. Darn- can't remeber the rest. Her cherished possession-a toy airplane-was somehow connected. Correct me if I am wrong.

Elle - yes that toy plane did belong to her b/f. And apparently she accidentally shot him or was responsible for his death? All I know is she never premeditated the murder she committed. Is the man she shot the b/f? That I'm not clear on though. I wish they hadn't skipped episodes this summer! Dang. We had time to watch ALL of them over the summer too....oh well. They will sell more DVD's this way! LOL
Okay, everyone countdown is on........Oceanic Flight #815 will be boarding soon.......T minus 2 hours and 14 minutes until we know what is in that hatch.
This reminds of the Fall when we were ~supposed~ to learn who shot JR on Dallas. Well, we had to wait three long weeks and 3 episodes to learn it was Kristin! I remember being so upset with those Dallas writers.....I even planned a party for the Season Premiere and we still didn't know who shot him (similar to what is in that hatch). Was it Cliff, Sue Ellen....LOL
