WASHINGTON (Reuters) -- President Bush wants $75 million to try to spur democracy in its adversary Iran, expanding a program that skeptics say can have little effect in the Islamic republic.
"The United States will actively confront the aggressive policies of the Iranian regime. At the same time, we will work to support the aspirations of the Iranian people for freedom and democracy in their country," Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice told a congressional budget hearing.
Rice said the funds would be used to broadcast U.S. radio and television programs into Iran and pay for Iranians to study in America. She requested the money in a supplemental budget request for fiscal year 2006.
Is this will work is the big question? I say it will be very difficult to change that countrys regime but never say never as surprises can occur.

PARIS - French Foreign Minister Philippe Douste-Blazy said on Thursday Iran was pursuing a clandestine military nuclear program.
“No civilian nuclear program can explain the Iranian nuclear program. So it is a clandestine Iranian military nuclear program,” Douste-Blazy told France 2 television.
“The international community has sent a very firm message by saying to the Iranians: ‘Come back to reason. Suspend all nuclear activity and the enrichment of uranium and the conversion of uranium,”’ he added.
The time will come when something has to be done with this Iran Nuclear standoff or it's resolved by diplomatic means or the military opition becomes a reality.

This is the most heartening thing about the crisis. The international community is firmly against allowing Iran nuclear weapons.

MOSCOW
Russia's top military chief on Thursday warned the United States against launching a military strike against Iran and a top diplomat voiced hope that close cooperation with China could help resolve the Tehran nuclear crisis.
With tension mounting over Iran's nuclear programs, Gen. Yuri Baluyevsky, the chief of Russia's general staff, warned the United States against attacking Iran.
"A military scenario can't be ruled out," Baluyevsky was quoted as saying by Russian news agencies.
He said that while Iran's military potential cannot compare to the United States', "it is hard to predict how the Muslim world will respond to the use of force against Iran."
"This may stir the whole world, and it is crucial to prevent anything like that," Baluyevsky was quoted as saying.
Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Alekseyev, meanwhile, said that cooperation with China could help push Iran toward accepting Moscow's offer to host Iran's uranium enrichment program.
The Russian proposal has become a centerpiece of international efforts to defuse tensions over Tehran's nuclear ambitions.
"We are counting on the continuation of close contacts with our Chinese colleagues and other interested countries," Alekseyev was quoted as saying by the Interfax news agency. He added, however, that the Iranian nuclear issue recently had become "sharper," and "it is too early to assess the effectiveness of our joint steps to resolve it."
Will Russia save Iran from a military confrontation?

Report: Iran wants 20 nuclear power plants
Febuary 20 AP -- An Iranian official said that country plans to construct 20 nuclear power plants.
The Fars News Agency reported Mohammad Hosein Farhangi, a member of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, said the next Iranian state budget bill orders regulation of the plan, study and construction of the 20 plants.
Farhangi made the announcement at a convention of "resistance units" commanders, the agency said.
"The country needs this technology and energy in various fields, including the medical and agricultural industries as well as for the accomplishment of many other projects," the official said.
However, he said, "the West intends to impede the Islamic Iran in particular, and the world of Islam in general, from making scientific progress and development so that it could continue with its arrogant superiority over the nations and governments."
Look what they intend to build if they are leaved alone and no pressure is made to them.

If they are determined to build a bomb, we are not going to stop them without bankrupting ourselves, failing spectacularly, and having the whole world turn against us.
These people don't think like we do. All they understand is strength. Negotiation is for the weaker party. We are going to make fools of ourselves threatening, then concilliating over and over. We should just let them know that if they try to use their bomb, there will be no Iran left. That goes for N.Korea too.
We are engaged in a historic battle of west vs. east. there's no compromise. We might have to take a hit. Once that happens, we have all the justification to wipe them off the map.
Instead of spending all that money on invading Iran, it should be spent here, improving our security.
Deterrence worked for 50 years against the USSR. In 50 years we could do a lot to corrupt thier youth.
