Tomorrow are the annual student awards at my HS. The only thing I am expecting is a pair of Dean's Lists for semesters one and two.

Well, the one thing I expected I did not get. XD Right out of the bag I was ambushed with surprise when my name was called from an Academic Excellence Award given to me by the US Marine Corps!!! I was one of 4 to get it, and I was the most shocked. It took me 20 seconds to get out of my chair to walk up there and then I was shaking the entire time. Then I was walking back and the support from the senior class was amazing. Then I got recognized for the Derby Lane Scholarship I got and the Presidential Scholarship I got. I am guessing they put off the Honor Roll/Deans Lists to another time because of the sheer time it takes to pass them out.

Yesterday there was a campus clean-up at my HS, and its starting to hurt now lol. Today, I joined the Junior Achievement team of West Central Florida, and lets just say its gonna be interesting. For anyone who doesnt know JA works with kids all the way from K-12, but primarily with K-5. The program that I am in is Our Community for 2nd graders, and basically that teaches kids about the community, different jobs, wages, taxes, and how business works. Next Friday I will be going to a local ES for 3 hours teaching them about those things and then I will have lunch over there (who knew that would become a habit) with the kids. Unlike Students Teach Students, I will be teaching alone. So, now I have homework in preparing everything over the weekend. Also, Tomorrow I will be cooking at a Ronald McDonald house and recycling at my HS. Can I list my occupation as a volunteer yet?

Ive hit my first brick road today. I'm trying to get into General Chem/Qualitative Analysis and in order to get in I have to take a Chemistry Placement Test. I havent taken Chemistry since 10th, 2 years ago. I have no idea where or how to start studying. Any advice?

Start by making an outline what you remember.

For example:
1. Elements - names, symbols, valences
2. Common acids and bases
3. Writing and balancing chemical equations
4. Concept of mole and stoichiometry
5. Gas laws
6. Atomic and molecular structure

To fill in details go to the library and check out a few general chemistry books. Read the sections on subjects where you are hazy. Check yourself by doing the problems. Work consistently by doing some work each day. Don't try to cram. For memory work make flash cards and carry them with you. Review them in your spare minutes. If you are really lost start at page 1 chapter 1 of a good text and work through it systematically.

I just took my state's EOC for Chemistry today. If I passed, then I graduate...if I failed, then I very well might of flunked the class

And to add to the flash card idea, try this program out: http://www.mnemosyne-proj.org

That might help you learn better.

I'm very likely not to be able to go to the library before the test. It would help if you gave me a website or questions to answer. Any and all info is VERY much appreciated.

Re: Fact789's Fall Class Schedule

#215 Postby JonathanBelles » Thu Jun 12, 2008 9:23 pm

I just signed up for my last two classes, and my class schedule is now complete.

Tuesdays and Thursdays are going to be LONG!!!! days...

Starting at 9:25-10:40 I have International Relations Honors
At 10:50-12:05 I have Western Humanities II Honors
Then I have an hour and 35 minute break.
Then I have Trigonometry from 1:40-2:55
Then I have an enormous break until 5:30 when I have Introductory Chemistry until 6:45. (first night class and I already dont like it)

No classes what so ever on Mondays!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Introductory Chemistry Lab is on Wednesday at 1:40-4:20.

This is by far my most ambitious and toughest schedule yet. It is my first honors class, my first night class, and I dont expect another 4.0 (although I will work my butt off for it). Neither trig or chemistry like me, or me it. I'm gonna love having Mondays off. I basically have wednesdays off too, but it will be mostly a working day. I hope like heck that I dont have 4 tests on a Thursday. What have I got myself into XD.

I just got home a little while ago from the eye doctor. I'm gettting glasses and I had an eye exam. With the exam comes the pupil dilation. wow! I feel like a drunkard with 2100 shades. I cant really read the computer, cuz if I do I get kinda dizzy, so if I spell anything wrong, bare with me. I walked outside with the shades and its like a whole new world. The grass is much greener, and the dirt spots more brown and they stick out more. The sky was less blue. I kinda felt like I was somewhere where global warming was 200 years into the future. Hopefully my eyes go back to normal or the lightning later is gonna have me walking like a drunkard on 20 glasses of hurricanes.

not sure if this counts but "bare with me" should be "bear with me".
ive never had an eye exam in depth like that, but i have heard about the pupil dilation thingy.

also, with your Fall schedule, on the bright side, you will have long weekends, since no classes on mondays or fridays! haaa which really makes it extra-l;ong weekends.
then we can always hope for some Fall- land falling hurricanes along florida's west coast to be on tuesdays or thursdays that way you can have your weekend extended even more!

so its not as bad as it seems. Plus Fall is still months away so not to worry.

Just an update from Universal....

All of the stars from the Harry Potter films are said to be currently shooting all new short film from a mini-story written by J.K. Rowling that will be used for the Wizarding World of Harry Potter attractions. This is all taking place just before they begin work on the next feature film.

I had Physics I and II from 6:45 to 8:25 PM in Fall 07 and Spring 08. I really didn't like that schedule but the professor was good and that's what matters.
