If anyone is curious about the many possibilities this storyline can go, here's a link for a very active Lost board. I mentioned it before in a previous post, but I swear I blink and 10 new topics pop up. It moves incredibly fast and there are so many wild theories out there!!! Fans on this board on shredding the plot apart, looking at every minor detail!!! Sometimes I just want to post - let's be patient and wait this out! But they're all discussing it endlessly...I have posted a handful of times, my nic is Artichoke6 there........

That message board is good Mary if you can sort through all the sludge of idiot posters.
I saw on CNN where "LOST" drew 23.09 million viewers on Wednesday @ 9/8 central, the largest audience ever for the show.
That compares with the following:
CSI Repeat (CBS) 10.46 million
E-Ring (NBC) 9.39 million
America's Next Top Model (UPN) 4.7 million
Head Cases (FOX) 3.8 million **CANCELLED**
Just Legal (WB) 1.35 million

Garrett - it is quite good. I agree if you have the patience to ignore the rude members. One member started a thread, buried now I'm sure, that stated that board had 3 groups: 1. Fans from day one (who were in the know pretty much, patting themselves on the back, impatient with newcomers). 2. Fans that started watching, either over the summer, as we did or just now as Season 2 started. 3. UK fans (Season one is airing now, they're up to the 4th episode I think). So basically she was saying they had zero patience for the second and third groups. But those fans keep logging on and asking questions that were asked months ago.
So it's a wild place at times. I read that board a few times over the summer, it was a snooze fest. Occasional posts here or there. Seems as soon as the Season Premiere ended, that board just expoloded!
You gotta watch what you post. If you can take the heat, give your opinion. They seem to jump all over you if it's an out-there opinion. Which is odd, b/c the show is really out-there, you have to think outside the box to grasp this show! One person came right out and said oh great, now that we know what is in the hatch, Season 2 will be boring. They revealed all in the season premiere. I said what? All? Or something to that effect. I merely stated I think it gave the writers lots of material for the coming season. We don't really know anything at this point....well, he hopped all over my comment. What a nut! I do want to start a topic over there and simply say - here's a suggestion, let's enjoy the ride and stop trying to analyze the show so much. I'd get slammed if I said that!

I haven't really been following this thread but i've watched every lost episode and last weeks episode. It was interesting that that man called Jack brother. i wonder what that means? Maybe his dad had a history back in Australia and fathered a child there before starting his family in America? Maybe he had a whole double life?
I don't know if anyone has mentioned it, but my friends cousin is the lawyer for Lost in LA and he has discounted many of the religious references in Lost. He said that there is a pretty high likelihood that the bible or God will not be themes for the show b/c that will not go over well with the "American Demographic". So ideas like purgatory are not valid in his opinion.

Anyone want to discuss last night's episode?
The pacing is hard to get used to. We kept thinking we've seen this scene and we had, but from a different angle or told from a different perspective. That was a little confusing.
Since I was a latecomer to Lost, I can see now they've only been on the island for 44 days! All of the flashbacks take up air time and actual survival scenes account for what, half of what is actually happening on the show?
We did figure it all out. What I thought was ironic is last week's premiere ending with Jack facing Desmond and saying - "you".......this week's show didn't move beyond him saying "you". So episode 3 will hopefully start with Desmond's reaction to hearing "you"......LOL
How many days will transpire between 44 days and the season finale in May? he he I predict no more than a month.
A whole year on this island could take a decade, in our time. Which explains why Hurley hasn't lost a ton of weight yet, Jack's still got a buzz haircut, Shannon's not missing food yet, Kate's eyebrows are perfectly plucked and what else, oh yeah, Walt's still a KID!
LOL

PS - oh yeah, the Thursday morning TV Guide critique....if anyone is interested. If not, let me know and I'll stop posting them! It's just that later, when you try to find them at TV Guide, they're archived and hard to find.

First off, since all you loyal readers were so helpful last week in trying to figure out what Walt said — either "Don't push the button, the button is bad," or "push the button, no button is bad" — by hearing it played backwards, this week's quest is to try and figure out that name of the company that is on all the logos in the supply room, on Desmond's shirt and weirdly enough, on that shark. Hmm, something's fishy there. And if anyone has a clue what the 237, 236 then 108,000 countdown clock stood for, I'd also be interested in hearing thoughts on that. Or what would happen if the numbers weren't entered in time? Oh, and are Apollo candy bars real, or is that another in-joke? Anyway, these were my most coherent questions after I finally calmed down from the heart palpitations and got the Mama Cass song out of my head again. From Sawyer's mid-ocean self-surgery, Michael's near-drowning experience, Sawyer's sharkbait swim with a predator, and finally Jin's terrified scream about "the others," breathing has become optional during this show. The only time I was able to stop my heart from racing, the well-crafted tale turned around and broke my heart. Michael's intense screaming for the son he already lost once, to the flashback where he said good-bye to the tinier Walt when he gave him a polar bear — that can't be a coincidence — and watched him walk away, to his desperate sunrise cry. Sniff, sniff. His determination to get his kid back is so moving. Especially when juxtaposed with his "It's only a shark? That's supposed to make me feel better?" ranting, which was perfectly executed. Oh, that brings me back to more questions like what does that execute button do, and will we ever find out? Do we think those "natives" are restless or just misunderstood? And just who is the "him" that Desmond was looking for? — Angel Cohn

I agree with the whole pacing thing. It is different from last season. When it was over I asked my husband what did ya think. He says we are at the same place we where last week. What up with that? Not sure if I like the way they are doing it. I guess we did find out a little more, but........as my husband said it was a tease. Yea right Mary, I hope they start with Jack and Desmond facing off. Really interested in the whole Desmond guy. I wonder if Jack is going to tell him,hey you are the guy I was running up the steps with in the statium, or if Desmond will remeber as well? Or how long ago was that? Hasnt he been on the island way longer? Or is that his twin? LOL. Anyway can't wait till next week. I just love this show.

A couple of things. This episode was a bit confusing, but made sense by the end. Did anyone else jump out of their skin with the whole shark thing? I was having "Jaws" flashbacks!! And that Desmond guy...just looking at him creeps me out. It will be interesting to find out his story, but I can't imagine growing to like him.
On a lighter note, I loved Kate's chocoholic moment! Priceless. And I love the whole song thing. I have no idea what it means, but it's pretty humorous watching the survivors' reactions!! I can't wait for next week!

My daughter Laura is now logging onto the imdb Lost board and reading all the wild theories posted over there. Her dad is rolling his eyes and leaving the room......I'm listening. LOL
Seems there are many. But the best one she read had to do with Desmond's question - about is the world still out there. A meteor hits major parts of the earth and he was sent there to keep tabs over the others, people chosen from all over the world to repopulate the earth.
Still with me? LOL I must admit I had a smirk on my face as I was listening to this theory.
Major holes in that plot though. Why did our recent survivors crash there? If the others have been there so long, then the world did continue. Another loophole.
I listen, tongue in cheek, b/c well really, I just want to enjoy the ride. I'd rather wait to see what the writers dish out next week.
But I do know I want to hear Jack utter more than one word! How about a few paragraphs? LOL

Speaking of that imdb Lost board, here's a topic that is S2K/wx related.....LOL Gotta love Texas!

If that doesn't work, here is the topic and two replies (you have to join to even read topics, I think):
Topic: 'I wont interrupt Lost' says weatherman

I got a big kick out of this...ok I live in North Texas and this time of year is tornado/thunderstorm season. Well wed. night we were having some severe t.storms in east Dallas (not where I reside mind you, I live further west closer to fort worth.). During the broadcast they would put the graphic at the bottom telling the cities and counties affected ect...the funny thing is though...that the weather man wouldn’t interrupt the show. When Lost would go to commercial break the weather man would come on and actually said several times "I wont interrupt lost"....how cool is that : )

You are soooo lucky. I live in Minnesota and my abc station didn't show the first 15 minutes of the premier (and didn't show that Destination Lost thing) because of severe weather and the most remote part of the state. But luckily ABC re-aired the premier.

OK...I watched it Mary (and the rest of you fans) LAST night instead of Wednesday (DVR recorded). Intriguing all the interconnections between characters that is going on. Almost confusing.
I like the show...and seems that every week new MAJOR twists are taking place which IMO gives it endless possibilities for this season and next.
While the show has taken some honors, and I won't miss a week of it, I am disappointed at some of the writing. Give me a break, for example, on the rafts. They could have both used some bamboo or their hands and paddled to the pontoon while they were arguing about whose fault the whole thing was. Burn off some of that testosterone energy doing something constructive!!! Geez.
Still...I am looking very forward to next week.

It was a relief to know you original diehard Lost fans were just as confused as we were. Since the premiere re-aired at 8 here, we thought maybe it had been delayed for a good reason. And the whole 2 hour timeslot, 2 episodes, were running over. Took us about 15 minutes to figure out, they were re-airing specific scenes from different perspectives. Now we know what Locke was doing when he landed down there. We know where Kate was locked up. On and on.
I also am glad to know they didn't do this much last year (remember we're missing a handful of episodes ABC skipped this summer). Hoping the pace picks up next week and we get more answers.
I joked early on it took Dallas viewers 3 full weeks to find out who shot JR in 1980. I swear I didn't dare dream Lost writers would drag this beginning story, mere hours long, out for 3 full weeks! They took a page from that Dallas book.......LOL

I do not beleive that the pace will pick up, but I do think that the story of "the others, the affliction, the white bear" and more will come more into focus as the season progresses.
If it moves too slow, perhaps just taping the recap at the beginning each week and watching those in succession will be food enough.

If it was Shannon, I wouldn't be too sad. It just better not be Kate or Sun. I'd like to see Sun and Jin have a happy reunion. And well, Kate is the leading female, she can't die! And don't even mention Claire - she just had a baby!
I hope it's either a background character we've not been introduced to much or at all. It could be Rose, we've only seen her once? But if it's Shannon, no biggie on my part. Never liked her character.

I'm not gonna tell you who I heard it was gonna be. But yeh losing anyone would totally change the dynamic of the show. I feel like they can't keep killing off people unless they're resolving issues at the same time, but they did say someone (a female) will be gone by the end of the season!?
