Maybe you can't be objective because of your willingness to group someone into a certain mold because of their name.
Well I'm sure that's equally borderline unacceptable. Maybe you can't be objective either because of your willingness to group someone into a certain mold because of one comment! -- Glass houses.
Did YOU read the article? At least I did that much before making my comment. I was taken aback by the complete lack of objectivity, thinking it might very well have been written by someone in Al-Jazeera when I'd noticed the author. This prompted the comment; but the article in-and-of itself was reason enough for the conclusion I came to. The article rails on and on about "mostly women and children"... "International uproar"...quote after quote from indignant Shiites about the "horrible massacre" and "these crimes"..."sympathy for ..brothers against the Israeli aggression." ..and finishes with: "Allah, Allah, grant victory to Hassan Nasrullah," the demonstrators, including women and children, shouted, referring to Hezbollah leader.
I'm certain I don't have to tell you what "objectivity" means. There was NOTHING balanced in the article. Yes, one can make the argument that it presents facts; but the presentation of just a series of quotes and statistics does NOT an objective bit of journalism make. In fact they can all-too-frequently be tools in the hands of a good propagandist. Nothing was said about what Israel has said about any of this, nothing was said about or by anyone from "the other side"... It is based on this kind of reporting that I am convinced my conclusion was 100% on target--it was NOT an objectively written article.
Now can we please stay on the topic of Israel vs. Hezbollah and not get into ad-hominems?

Are we starting an ad-hominem campaign in here? But in answer to your utterly irrelevant question... were the hypothetical Mr. Goldstein to have authored an article which SOLELY presented the Israeli side to the exclusion of ANYTHING from the "other" side... probably so.
Now do you two want to get back to the title of the thread or do you want to once again drag it into sidebar ad-hominem as opposed to sticking to the issues?

I'd also you rather not question my intelligence and reading comprehension by claiming I haven't read the article.
Cuts both ways. I'd rather you not question my objectivity based on a comment.
I could claim you never finished second grade, but really, you probably did and its best to think the best of people if you actually care to be taken seriously.
Ditto.. seeing that in the above statement (Your first quote) you made this comment:... "claiming I haven't read the article..." you make a charge that is not only NOT based in fact; but is patently false, and at best based on assumptions--erroneous ones at that. The first one to come in here making a charge against a user was not I--it was you. Please practice what you so eloquently preach.

Maybe you should apologize for this. There isn't really any point having a conversation with you if you are prejudiced.
Look, let me make this perfectly clear:
#1 If you're looking for a PC mentality from me you're really barking up the wrong tree--direct your umbrage elsewhere and don't hold your breath waiting for that apology. Would it be fair for me to require an apology from every poster in here who presented an obviously anti-Israeli comment as being "prejudiced"? or "Anti-Semitic". It seems a lot of folks in here, when bereft of a logical argument resort to every tactical diversion imaginable--take things out of context...put words in their mouth...accuse them of the most hideous of all crimes--"prejudice"... and therein force them to retreat-- ain't gonna happen. All I did was point out that the author of a patently biased article also happened to be Muslim. These kinds of correlations are pointed out all the time. What I did NOT do was claim everyone of the Muslim faith was sympathetic to these terrorists; what I DID do was point out that it came as no great surprise to me that a Muslim would author a patently biased article--the two are NOT the same thing. I could go on with this argument but it is both irrelevant, and off-topic. Congrats, once again some have succeeded in getting the thread off-topic. In the absence of a good case--employ ad-hominems, non-sequiturs, ad nauseum, but by all means--change the subject.
#2) I am making a clear and concise request that future posts be restricted to the issue of Hezbollah Vs. Israel--and NOT drag in all our tangential issues. I don't think that's asking too much.

I could be wrong; but I believe getting Syria into the mix is quite possibly something that Israel might want... not completely sure why; but that is my gut feeling at this point.

I think its strategically sound for Israel to humble the nations that haven't given her peace treaties such as the Syrians. Don't let them grow too powerful.
The Syrians would be foolish to get dragged into a conflict with Israel because I doubt any Arab country would give them anything but money and some supplies. One never knows about the Iranians, but they are separated from Syria by Iraq and US/coalition troops.
The Syrians would lose.. badly.

Tangential issues and politics seem to be just fine in these threads as long as they're the "popular" ones. And what discussion worth having about this conflict even attempts to divorce politics? That's why I don't bother. I know, it's the forum rules (applied a bit unevenly).
BTW, "precision-guided" weapons aren't so surgical. They're responsible for Qana, the UN post, and scores of collateral damage deaths (let's see, Yugoslavia ok to mention, Iraq off limits?). And the Dresden (and Tokyo) firebombings were so lethal not because the "hearts" of the cities were bombed, but because the targets were wooden firetraps. These are the tip of the misinformation/distortion iceberg I've seen here recently.
Ad hominem is an adjective without a hyphen, not a noun, and what it describes, A2K, is your racist comment, not the remarks of those pointing it out.

I agree--perhaps this is why Israel is almost hedging toward this. The wild card will indeed be Iran... not to mention a possible river of volunteers to assist them from the Shiite populations of nearby countries. I don't know... seems a real risky venture. It does bring up the possible scenario of things really getting out of hand though.

Thanks for pointing that out--I quite frequently type rapidly, and insert a hyphen or dash simply to fill a void, you are correct that it doesn't have the hyphen... on the other hand there are many places where it is used commonly as a noun, the English language is replete with such license; From the American Heritage Dictionary:
but we digress and once again we're employing diversionary nonsense.Ad hominem has also recently acquired a use as a noun denoting personal attacks, as in “Notwithstanding all the ad hominem, Gingrich insists that he and Panetta can work together” (Washington Post)
As to the specious accusation you level... aside from denying it as false and inflammatory, I ask that you relegate such an ad hominem (yes NOUN) to either a PM, or keep it to yourself.
