Well, I can see that all computers, cell phones and electrical devices will be evidentually banned. This is ok with me. My husband always works with his computer while flying, but that will be ok with him. We don't need anything on a plane that they can prove can detonate anything. These are different times now we are living in. This is not a game for children.

I bet you don't realise just how many words you spell differently to me though. We've also got lots of different words for the same things from what I can tell from the Simpsons.

I just had a humorous vision of The Simpsons being dubbed into British English. :D

If they do that fo rany length fo time we can kiss the commercial airline industry goodbye, especially international. Without business travellers, the industry will die. Business will find other alternatives if the time on the airplane becomes completely unproductive.

Personally I'm guessing sanity will win out and the new restrictions will disappear within a few weeks rather than become stricter.

The safety of the flyers is way more important than the loss of money from these businessmen.

Well, this was not the average plot. Even just counting the number of people arrested or otherwise confirmed to be involved, this was a bigger operation than 9/11. And some of the reports say the network may range in size from 50 to 150 individuals. If even the low end of that is true, then this plot was twice as big as 9/11. Certainly, the sophistication of the planning and the level of funding was comparable to that of 9/11.

I think that merits major attention.

They can ban your iPod and confiscate your lip balm, but as long as the commercial cargo going in the belly goes unscreened, don't believe you are one bit safer.

It's our entire economy that's at stake. Our economy depends, among a lot of other factors, on easy travel from point A to point B. Take that away and we'll have a recession, or worse, a depression.

Taking a step to appear safe which will damage our economy without actually increasing safety to thwart a miniscule probability of danger is silly.

From what I know, the plan was to pour liquid explosives into the bottom half of a sports drink bottle, and pour regular sports drink into the top half. In the plane, a disposable flash camera would act as a detonator.

They were planning to bomb 10 jumbo jets. Do the math. That's 3000 dead if this plan succeeded. We were very fortunate.

I'm all for increasing security, as long as it's effective. Unfortunately, I'm doubting it really 100% is.

Terrorists were planning to unleash a series of deadly mid-air explosions on flights between London and America on August 16, it has been revealed today.

Members of the terror group, who were arrested in a series of raids by anti-terror police yesterday, were due to mount a dry run today to check if they could smuggle components for liquid explosives through Britain's airports.

United Airline tickets dated next Wednesday were found by police at the home of one of the raided addresses.

Date doesn't really stand out other than it's the day Elvis died.

Being forced to let go of some of these devices for a short flight may not be such a bad thing. We are all guilty of spending more time with our heads stuck in electronics instead of interacting with the people around us. I mean how many times to you see mom and dad hooked into their laptops and the kids with their ipods and psp's. And I think if a buisness person has to be across the country isn't still more time and cost effectient to fly rather than drive. We did not always have these things and managed quite well I think everyone can survive a six hour flight without them

This was just reported on CNN tv, so I do not have a link. They said that when they searched one of the houses in the UK of the terrorists, they found an airplane ticket for Today, not yesterday. Scary.....

Miniscule probability?

As far as I'm concerned, it's our freedom and lives that are at stake. Our economy won't exist if we are under Taliban control.

yes, miniscule probability. 10 flights out of millions is a very small probability of being affected directly.

Agreed. IMHO it's illogical to give up freedom to protect freedom.

Our economy won't exist if we are under Taliban control.

Nor will it exist if we act like sheep and overreact in fear every time a possible threat is presented.

Yeah, and the actual attack was apparently planned for August 16.

Yeah, I read that in his post. :)
I was just telling Janice as that's why they found an airplane ticket for today.
