We DO need it to cool down here. But we have about six weeks more of the really hot stuff left, and then that change will bring people outside every day for months!
I had a friend say to me yesterday, "Have you noticed how many out-of-state license plates are here in Phoenix already? I think the winter visitors are already starting to return."
If they are, they will wither up before the real reason they come here shows up in October.
Nice to hear from you Pojo. How's life in the jet stream?
not to bad... We are starting to get busy.

It's been too long for me, too...over a year, I believe.
Things have been nutz here...new apartment, taking in three grandchildren (via the State), gettting our license as "kinship providers", and entertaining State case workers and therapists at least twice a week since June.
Coppertop is working, as is the wife: and Annabelle (she be a ho') is still being a ho'. She signed the leash, and she lets us live here.
As for the streetsoldier...I finally received all of my German uniform items for reenacting, except the leather goods (boots, belt, mapcase, holster, etc.). Meanwhile, I've found myself tutoring a group of reenactors in the UK (clueless, many of them)...feels nice to be needed.
Anyway, I expect that soon we'll all be heading indoors to the Stove-Bellied Pot..uh, sorry...Pot-Bellied Stove for companionship, warmth and watching Annabelle (she be a ho') and Crouton duking it out over which of them gets to eat the leftovers.
Poppysky, I haven't forgotten YOU, either...give me a call sometime, if you still have my number.

Re: "Sittin' round the front porch!"
Hello and good morning Streetsoldier. Sounds like change has brought new people and new activity to the household. 'Tis good that Annabelle (she be the "ho") allows you to continue living in her space.
My wife and I have a young friend in Holland who, along with her "significant other" are re-enactors for period events in Europe. I'll send along a couple of photos just recently sent of them in their garb.
Congrats on the uniform pieces as well. I remember the times when you felt they would remain out of reach forever. I know what they mean to you; what they represent. And I am happy they are in the hands of someone with such passion for that which they represent.
When I send you the photos, shoot back your latest phone number. One of these lunch hours I'll try to chat with you from my office.
In the last few days I have rekindled some memories among friends from the October 4, 1987, storm in New England. I had met with a number of weather friends at Pinkham Notch camp in New Hampshire, and the storm that chased us all home that weekend was one we have not forgotten. Nor were the wonderful colors of the foliage that year.
Good to hear from you again. Sir!

Bill, how great to see you on the porch!!!
I'm so excited about all of your new ventures. Good to hear that some of that knowledge is being spread around!!!! I think tutoring is right up your alley.
Ok, I'm blonde but tell me about this "kinship provider". What is that about? If it's personal, forget that I asked.
Hope it doesn't take too long for you to acquire the leather goods.
Give Annabelle (she be a ho) a hug from her Auntie Karan

"Hi" to pojo and everyone else! Hope everyone has had a great weekend. It's getting cooler
now, and, this week, we, once again, have a "chance" for rain here in middle Tennessee. I've
changed jobs due to my boss, the doc, moving to Houston, so, I've been getting into the
groove of private duty! I do try to pop in to Storm2K as much as I can these days. I can't
go for too long without stopping in to visit!
Hope everyone has a great week!

A "kinship provider" is someone who's related by blood (family) who is willing to go through all the hoops for State licensure, just like a "foster parent". We have been licensed for a couple of weeks...but they only put Debi's name on the paper (which has to be displayed prominently in a frame)...and they misspelled it, to boot.
We have to undergo another 75 hours of training within one year to retain our license...this can be done at any time from now until next September.
Annabelle (she be a ho') is being petted as I speak here...she BE a ho'.

The leather goods are the final hurdle...about $150 for boots, $100 for a belt(!), $40 for a holster, $75 for a mapcase. These will all be pre-war "honey-tan" color (except for the boots; 18" tall, fitted and black), and the belt has to be made "special" (I have the 70mm-wide, two-prong pebble-frame aluminum buckle; the belt itself is 55 mm, which was what officers wore prior to wartime shortages/requirements).

But, if I'm going to do this, everything must be 100% correct for time period and rank. Imagine sitting in a 2007-08 classroom, and having someone from the Russian Front, April, 1943 walk in just as he'd have looked, spoken, and what he'd have known at that time. It's a great teaching tool, when done properly.

Speaking of which...when do we move into the room with the "Pot-Bellied Stove"? It's been getting COLD here.

So, how far are you from becoming an "officer and a gentle-woman" in this man's AF?
I want pictures of your receipt of that "butter-bar".
