"Leftover soup" (chicken broth with leftover veggies, pasta, chicken, etc.) -- I'm getting a cold and have been blowing my nose and "channeling Satchmo" all day.... :(

:uarrow: Sounds delicious, O Town -- I'd ask for the leftovers, but my cold has already proceeded to the "I-can't-really-smell/taste-much-of-anything" stage.

(In fact, I made chocolate chip cookies for my husband and sister but didn't eat any because it would have been a waste of cookies! )

Today is the first day of lent so that means no meat. Now living in south louisiana, it's not hard not to eat meat...fresh seafood! But not in my house during lent...tonight will be fried egg sandwiches.

Winds howled and temps dropped rapidly here today. It was cold, but only in the low 40s. We had been getting used to mild wx again!

Anyway I made a simple meal, that a family member told me about once:

Turkey or Pork Sausage, sliced (Hillshire)
Sauerkraut
Potatoes (peeled or unpeeled, halved or quartered)
Carrots (or you can use green beans, I was out of them for tonight's meal)
Whole cloves (about a handful)
2 cups of chicken or vegetable bouillon (Knorr's)
brown sugar to taste (I add about 1/4th cup)

Bring to a boil, simmer covered for 30-45 minutes until vegetables are done. Sausage is already cooked.

Add corn bread and a salad of some sort (slaw, tossed, cottage cheese) and you have a complete meal. Your house will smell like kraut though!

Ate this evening at a brand new Golden Corral in nearby Wake Forest, NC with my folks and I got a mix of Chinese, some meatloaf, baked beans n franks, a roll and water. :) Was GREAT to get out of the house since having been sick with a sinus infection bug!

Baked chicken breasts Marco Polo (stuffed with finely chopped broccoli + ham in a creamy white sauce -- prepackaged), white rice, fresh carrots steamed and coated with a brown sugar + butter sauce, and romaine-bell pepper-celery-tomato salad
