I only know that my country is willing to send some special forces but only if it's really needed. Just a few months to the general elections, so the goverment doesn't want to step into a new conflict all too fast.

Well its actually a legitimate question because of the existence of the French Foreign Legion of which there are American members.

The IDF has confirmed that Hezbollah has shot down an Israeli helicopter.

Israel says they will end hostilities at 7am local time Monday(Midnight Eastern Sunday here).

I hope Hezbollah doesn't attack the peacekeeping forces and ruin it. Maybe some of them will be forced to leave Lebanon.

Well, I wouldn't disarm myself either if someone's still occupying a part of my country, so I can understand that. I just hope Israel will pull out.

Strangely enough, the resolution doesn't hold Israel responsible for the destruction in Lebanon.

Perhaps this is because of the fact that had Hezbollah not precipitated all of Israel's actions in this "war"--there never would have been such destruction.

Hezbollah has NO RIGHT to have an armed militia. That is the job of the Lebanese army

The resolution does not hold Israel responsible, because Hezbollah is responsible

Well, it weren't Hezbollah's bombs that caused the destruction in Lebanon and most of the people affected by those bombs had nothing to do with the conflict so it would be fair if Israel at least helps to rebuild the infrastructure and houses they destroyed.

The Hezbollah pay most of the bills in Lebanon, so that's understandable. Doesn't make it right.

My 2 cents here......do we HONESTLY think there will ever be a peace resolution that will work? I don't think so myself, these people have been going at it since the days of Abraham, Cane and Abel, what makes us think that a UN Peace Keeping Force is going to work? It's not in the cards!

But it WAS Hezbollah's actions that brought the bombs in the first place. They were attacking Israel while cowering within the civilian population centers. A nation does have a right to defend themselves while under attack. Hezbollah's culpability is undeniable.

I don't believe that's a fair historical assessment of the matter.

The Jews and Palestinians have not been in a state of perpetual conflict since 'Abraham' (not sure how Caine and Abel fit into it). In fact they have not been in perpetual conflict for the last 200 years. Its a rather recent development, which has more to do with European imperialism and division of the world than religious hatred.

Just my thoughts.

Actually, if one is looking for a Biblical context of where this "sort" of conflict began, it wasn't with Abraham at all; it was with Jacob and Esau, the children of Isaac. It is pretty much acknowledged that Jacob became the "Father" of the 12 tribes of Israel (his new name)... and Esau, from whom he finnagled the birthright (although Esau didn't much care about it in trading same for some broth), who is considered the "Father" of many other Semitic tribes, most notably, the Arabs. There has been a deeply rooted conflict ever since; but that said, there have also been long periods of relatively peaceful coexistence as well--they are, in the final analysis--of the same ancestry when you really get down to it.

Apologies to all if that seemed off topic; but I thought it might be worth mentioning in light of the previous two posts.
