I'm glad to hear that the house has been spared from the flames Steve. I'm also glad to hear that your other son didn't have a heart attack, but reflux is a nasty disease in its own right!

My second-older sister, Anne, lives in Orange County...Brea, CA, if I remember correctly (we don't keep in touch)...anyone heard if she's in the path?

Not sure where that is, Bill. The number of fires PLUS the difficulty in predicting fire behavior makes this a particularly difficult few days.

Not to mention...firefighters are taxed to the max.

My family is back intact tonight. Both here an in California.

Drove Jarrod down to his work to get his car tonight and passed the NFL Monday Night Football game in Tempe along the way. More than 65,000 fans on this perfect night (70 degrees and no wind)...we both laughed that free tickets might work for the Cardinals if ever they really want to fill the stadium.

So...in the midst of some rough times, we can still find things to laugh about!

The reason I asked, Steve, is that the satellite images of the fronts and plumes seemed to show that her area was in the path of the third one (NW to SE). I have no way to contact her at all; no phone number, E-addy, nothing.

Steve, I'm glad to hear Jarods condition wasn't any worse than it was! GREAT news on the house being spared too!

Last report from Marci....they were suppose to do a back burn in Julian to stop the advancing flames, that was at 1900 last night, no further news. Now the Cedar Fire near Julian was started by a *LOST HIKER*!! Sounds very familar doesn't it? Wonder if it wasn't Valinda Jo Elliott! The lost hiker shot off a signal flare...."Imagine THAT!"

The Julian fire has exploded anew Dennis. Maybe the hottest spot around tonight. Hope they can get a handle on it quickly but firefighters are exhausted...and the vast area affected is simply too much to deal with.

May God watch over your sister and those in Julian and vicinity.

Dennis....the latest I have read on the Julian fire is that firefighters call it a new "superfire" and have elected to pull back. I hope all in that little town (I just love that little apple pie place on the corner!) have had time to gather belongings and head elsewhere. Keep us posted, please Dennis.

Finally, I heard from my CA sister (rather, one of my nephews)...

They are about 80 miles from the conflagration, but the air quality is "critical"; also, some families who've lost their homes have been relocated nearby them, far from the devastation.

Fire is not expected to reach them at all, but... :?:

Yeah Bill, I am also in Orange County; about 10-15 miles from Brea; and let me tell you the air quality here sucks. Badly. The sky was brown today; yesterday it wasn't that bad; but over the weekend it was REALLLLLY smoky and ashy. I'd say Saturday, Sunday; and today were the worst days. Cars and roofs here are turning white now from all of the ash that has been falling down the past few days. :o

I wasn't around last night, we were on the phone for hours with Marci.....It's over  the town of Julian for all intents and purposes is gone  Needless to say, Marci lost her house along with a brand new pickup in the garage. Over 100 homes in the Pines Hills Subdivision of Julian were lost. The hell of it.......Marci had JUST sold her house, well, it was in escrow, a 500,000$ home gone  Marci and her fiance were going up this weekend to move out her personnal belongings, she lost everything, priceless pictures, antiques from her and Michelles great grandmother. We praise God for her saftey, material things can be replaced...........

Michelle is flying out of Show Low on Monday for a week to help Marci sift through the ashes and rubble. She will catch the shuttle flight from Showlow and catch a connecting flight at Sky Harbor. I have to stay here and run the business.

Dennis

The fire in Julian is having its way, Dennis, as is obvious by your sister's loss. Such a shame. Now, with a firefighter lost there, too, it is very very sad.
I suspect winds will get whipping through Friday out there...and the fire will continue to call the shots. Too big, too fast for anyone.

I'm so sorry to hear of your sister-in-law's loss Dennis! I'm glad that she is safe, but I can't imagine the grief that she is going through right now. :(

steve and dennis,

friends, I am both rejoicing for good news and filled with sorrow over the bad news...

dennis I am so very sorry to learn that marci has lost her home to the rage of the fire...I am thankful that she survived with her life..but to loose all her possesions....words seem so inadequate...on the other side of the country all I can offer is my continued prayers...be assured that they will continue unceasing

steve, good to know that jarrod is at home recovering..even when they are young adults they still have the capacity to scare us when they get sick...I'll keep the prayers flowing for complete healing for your son....and for jason and deb too...

dennis, steve take good care of yourselves so that you can continue to be the rocks of strength for your families

hugs to the both of you...

blessings, raine

Well folks, as like with the Rodeo Chediski Fire of last year, there is SO much BAD information being reported by the media, "IMAGINE THAT!"

First off, let me apologize, it seems the news Marci got from the media in San Diego was WRONG! The little village of Julian has NOT burned to the ground, like I said, this was reported by the media in San Diego....the fire is VERY CLOSE to Julian, the winds have died down somewhat, giving the firefighters a chance to take a stand and fight it, it's within' 500 yards of town as of 1800 hrs.

Now.....Marci is NOT 100% sure that her house is gone, houses on both sides of hers and behind her burned to the ground......the sheriffs deputy who gave this info to Marci could not see her house due to the smoke, So, another bad report on my part.....I should know better than to post info that's NOT 100% correct and backed up with more info from a more reliable source. For this, I also apologize......the chances that Marcis home survived the inferno is almost 0% BUT.....miracles DO happen, we've witnessed this before our eyes here at Storm2K.

Until I'm "110% SURE"......I will not post any more info on this situation. Thank you for your prayers and concerns. I will have Marci and her fiance take a look at this thread, Robert is a member of this board now, has been for some time, he just never posts!

I heard on Fox News Channel, tonight, that the fire is VERY CLOSE to Julian, opposed to it being "burned to the ground."

http://www.scrippsranch.org/special/fire_gallery.asp

Here's a link to the fires in Jason, Deborah, and granddaughter Emma's neighborhood. Some of these are just a short walk from their home.

They were literally just one gust of wind away from disaster. My stomach aches just thinking about it....and all those who have so much to do to restart their lives.

The latest tonight is not good for areas around Julian and once again near Ramona. Fire is erratic in those areas. Will bear watching as winds pick up and humidity drops there overnight and tomorrow.
