Homosexual student expelled from Christian school
Moderator: S2k Moderators
Okay I am going to put my two cents in here!!! I have been trying to remain quiet but can't any longer.
First of all, I am a devout Catholic and not all priests are bad news and child molestors. My daughter attends a Catholic school and the same one I attended in all my 12 years. School policy "strictly prohibits homosexuality" but yet, they allowed priests to moleste young boys for decades!!! And it is not just Catholic priests that have done this, it is preachers and reverends as well of all denominations. If they would fix that problem like the Catholic church is doing now then maybe they would not be so quick to judge a kid in a religious setting. Then maybe they would all not look so darn stupid when they pull a child aside for his sexuality questions.
Sorry to all our Christians out there, but the truth is the truth.

Define "moral behavior."
Do we kick out of school every child who lies or badmouths his parents? Should a Catholic school expel a student for having condoms or birth control pills?
If "behavior" is the issue, how did he behave wrong? Heck, I waited until I was 27 (you know what I mean). Yet, I was still gay. He may identify himself as gay, but that doesn't mean he has acted on it yet. Is simply being gay a reason for someone to not get an education? Should a young man or woman who carries protection, although they have not needed to use it yet, be deprived of the right to finish their senior year? If a student has a pack of gum, but is not chewing it in class, does it still constitute having gum in class?

I think "moral behavior" was the wrong word choice- but I think I understood the intent, and so will elaborate because I agree.
They're prefectly able to set down a guideline of acceptable behavior, which includes the morals that they preach.
Lot of people don't understand that morality is different for different people- they believe thier moral code should be followed by everyone or that everyone HAS thier moral code and simply chooses to ignore it. Patent falsehood. Serial murderers have a different moral code than the rest of us- they see nothing wrong with what they do. I've got a vastly different moral code than a devout catholic. Fortunetly we have the LEGAL moral requirements written out neatly in our laws and legal system- the government tells us what is or is not acceptable in terms of abortion, murder, and in some states- the bedroom. We don't have to agree with it (and most people have some disagreement with written laws) but we do have to follow it to make our society ordered and to ensure safety and freedom.
I believe it's perfectly moral to be gay. I also believe it's perfectly moral to live together before marriage and to divorce and remary. I also believe it's moral to choose abortion. But what ***I*** believe doesn't mean one blessed thing to anyone else except in that I vote on laws- or they want to change me.
Private institutions have a right to deleniate thier own acceptable moral codes- that right granted by the legal moral code which is seperate. I certainly don't think there's anything wrong with being gay- some of my best friends in high school were out of the closet and loving it. (I was in a VERY progressive high school) By the same token- the school has a right to define acceptable behavior and the student should find a school where being gay doesn't matter.
I really think it stinks, though, that he was such an old student (senior?) and forced to find a new school. The school should have a clear rueling marking the acceptability of homosexuality in thier school. At the very least he should be allowed to finish out the school year and graduate- grandfathered in, if you will, before they could clearly mark in thier regulations the acceptability of homosexuality.

No...its placing personal happiness and convenience ahead of life. Twist it how you want but you are fooling yourself if you say a fetus is not a baby who just is not born yet. My son was just diagnosed Type I Diabetes. I think I will get rid of him because, genetically he has flaw that makes him a little less then a little 6 year old boy. By the way, I was diagnosed when I was 5 and I am still glad my parents thought I was not so inconvenient and allowed me to be born. I am sorry if this offends you, but Pro-choice is immoral by any societal standards. This same group is the one who will chase to the ends of the earth a man who doesn't pay child support. Where is his right to choose?

Nope, sorry.

By the same token I was caught kissing a boy at 5 on the playground and started dating boys at 11- enthusiastically. I've never had even a twinge of doubt about my sexual orientation- but by golly I want people to be free to choose or be born into a lifestyle I'm not interested in.

No hard feelings?

Nope, sorry.I'm not particularily interested in getting deep into a debate about it because my feeling on the issue are very complicated- and very strong. Free choice is a strong part of my psyche. I choose NOT to do a number of things that I don't have a problem with other people doing. IE- I could never get an abortion- I'll be honest I can't even imagine giving my child up to starngers to raise in an adoption. But I have fought for the right for women to be able to choose- and will for the forseeable future.

None from me....abortion sickens me but I am too imperfect a person myself to hold it against someone personally.

Societal standards of morality is a myth guys. It's a pretty one that people love to believe- but a myth.
There's individual morality, belief based morality (as in church docterine) and legal morality as forced by the laws which govern us. There is no overwhelming morality of society as a whole- it's fractured and chaotic at best- there isn't any single thing in the world that everyone you ask would agree with. There are only a handful of things that the majority of people would agree with (Lifes good, death is to be avoided etc)
The closest any of those gets to a societal morality is legal morality- which, in the case of abortion, is perfectly clear.

Yes there is an overwhelming morality...its LIFE. The right to have one. Abortion robs that fetus of the so-called individual morality. When that forceps crushes the babys skull or the tube sucks him through the birth canal...you have robbed him of his right to individual morality. You rob that fetus of your own argument.

Here we go...

God also taught us in the Ten Commandments to "Love Thy Neighbor", though there's alot of Bible-thumping people that tend to forget that one. Since when were you considered above everyone else???? Were you told to cast the first stone? I CAN'T STAND INTOLERANCE.
